I know this is off topic for the original post, but you tackled the same issue I have been pondering....do I really want my 597 way up forward under that shield where it will be a pain to get to, or do I bring it closer where it will be in the way when I tend my crab pots?  Decisions decisions.  And that's just the beginning....STILL evaluating the transducer strategy.  The down imaging design complicates everything.  I might go with the closed cell foam puck and ultrasonic gel couplant....I just hate giving up accurate water temps...SO important when fishing the lakes......

I only used the Shield to store the extra transducer cord and marine power plug.  I used the Shield storage space to store hoody and gloves and lunch.  The FF is mounted on a RAM arm in a Round Scotty flush mount on the left side of the space between the Rod Pod and the Shield.  I never found this placement of the FF caused issues with my crab traps.  If so, loosen the arm and swing it out of the way.  I carried two 2x2x1' folding crab traps over the rear fish well held in place by a PVC 'H' stuffed into the scuppers.  I'd flip around and straddle the yak backwards and drop the traps.  I'd pull them up with one leg over the side then either swing them into my lap or back onto the fish well.  There is enough useable room on a T13 to carry crab traps and fishing gear.

There is ultrasonic gel couplant?  If you want accurate water temps, get a thermometer you can drop in the water.
