Hi all, Surfin around trying to find the best finder for me. I want to spent no more then 200 bucks. What do you guys use and recommend?  What are the most important features when looking for a finder for a kayak?  Thanks for the input

I've got an Eagle Cuda 250 that I like a lot.  Good enough fish finder, and has a basic GPS built in, for under $200.

The Cuda 168 is the same unit minus the GPS, and can be had for under $100.

I bought the Eagle 245DS. Same as the Cuda series but with a dual frequency transducer which is better for saltwater(when I ever get around to going offshore). I also bought it equipped with the optional portable pack, which gives you a battery box for AA batteries. I have still yet to try it on the water but I'm happy with it in my garage... ;D

I shopped around online and got it pretty cheap also. I think I spent about $125 with the portable option.

I also started out w/ the Eagle cuda and for the price it can not be beat. I was lucky enough to get a Humminbird 580 recently and I gotta say I'm blown away by the quality. I've had a lot of people tell me they are the way to go and now I know why. The 535 & 565 are nice rigs & just fit your budget.

I was leaning toward one of the hummingbird models. I don't have any kind of GPS at this time so i might save a bit longer and get the 580 model. Thanks for the input.

I think you'll like it.  The only issue I have with mine is the GPS getting a little confused because I take it all over the state (I turn it off in Portland then turn it on again on Upper Klamath Lake, the GPS does strange things).

Of course, I could probably solve this by reading the manual....
