Hobie Revo Bar Mount?

I'm looking at a bar mount and am looking around for scrap 7/8" bars. The only thing I have hanging around is some copper that measures 3/4" I.D. and some 3/4" O.D. aluminum. I'm also looking at running it on the left side parallel to the Mirage Drive (whereas Dominick has his running perpendicular to the Drive). The reason for this is to be able to adjust both my FF and rod holder back and forth (if necessary). So, IS copper an option? Am I overlooking something that I should have learned in Welding 101 or Potential Lightening Rods 103?

Not sure about the welding thing but copper won't rust.   Take a look at the the new Yak Attack rail mount system  too.  It is hard to find info on it but it looks pretty good from what I have seen.

Copper won't rust, but it will tarnish and corrode if you plan on taking you kayak in salt water.  I would go with aluminum.  You'll still need to rinse it off well though.

Some thoughts:

Once you figure out where you like your FF and rod holder you may not want to move it.  I rigged up some temporary mounts for my FF until I figured out where I wanted/needed it. 

Copper tubing is soft.  Tightly clamping a mount to it may deform it.  Stainless steel would be best, next aluminum.  Don't go with too thin walls on any material. 

Consider the OD of your bar and what specifically you want to attach to it.  You may find attachments hard to find for a bar less than 1" OD.   What I am trying to say in a clumsy way is to choose your accessories' mounts, and let them determine your bar size. 

Also, the larger the bar the more bearing surface for your mount(s) and the less chance the torque created by the weight of the accessory and the bouncing of the boat will rotate your mount around the bar.   Many of the mounts are plastic and you can only tighten them so far before risking breakage and/or strippage.   I had to use stair tape under my FF/GPS and trolling rod holder mounts to prevent them  from rotating on the 1-1/8" OD aluminum bar. 

Also take a look online for Rhyno Bars. Originally made to solve similar issues on long wheelbase tandems such as the old OK Zest and Cobra triples. P

I use 5 gallon soda kegs when I brew.  Hmmm .... a PVC keg rack for the revo?

Good idea.  Best to get some experience and figure out how you want to rig the boat after knowing how you will fish from it.
