Just bought a Cuda 350 GPS fishfinder.  I have a Hobie Outback.  Any advice on installing it would be great. I plan on installing inside the hull by the sail post.  Is it necessary to get the Hobie install kit? BTW - -good deal at Cabelas.  Listed at $`199, on sale for $169 and $20 off if over $150 purchase.

No the install kit is not necessary. If you do a search on Drillin and Cuttin and place fish finder in the search box you will find tons of information about FF installs. I posted mine with pictures on what I bought for the install. That's the same unit I have and that's a great price. I am very happy with it.

Some mirage drivers find the fins flapping through the sonar cone interferes with the unit's function.  I discovered that on my revo and then moved the transducer under the seat.

I installed mine there in my Outback and it works great.  I have the Cuda 300.  I traced the shape of the transducer on a piece of closed cell foam and glued it down with marine goop.  I squirt a little water in before each outing and have had no problems.

I installed my Humminbird 768 transducer just ahead of the sail mast pole in my Outback using "Duct Seal" (when I was in the USN 50 years ago, we called this stuff Monkey shit).....Home Depot carries this item in the electrical department.
Call them to see if in stock as electricians use this to insulate mechanical connections and sometimes clean out the stock for a few days.
I think it cost less than $2.00 for a 1 pound pug.
I like this mounting method as there are no air bubbles trapped between the transducer  inside the hull.......easy to relocate if desired......and works very well.
