I was blowing my allowance today at Fisherman's and I was told by someone who knows someone who is in the know (don't you love gossip) that the 2012 sturgeon season for the Willamette will start in February.  Supposedly, it will be a "one day a week for retention" fishery in hopes of making the season stretch out a lot longer.   That day will be Friday.  Personally, I sure hope this happens.  It would be nice to make it to some warmer weather.

Anyways, that is my gossip quota for the month.  It sure beats the gossip my wife and her friends talk about, though.

I read, I think on the WDFW website that they're thinking of shutting down retention of sturgeon in Puget Sound tributary rivers.  Supposedly to protect CR stocks.   :dontknow:

Here's a little more gossip, straight from the WDFW office as I was there today, talking to one of the Biologist for this Region. Five lakes in the area near Vancouver have been closed for five days, due to the stocking of some "enormous" (<---------notice the quotation marks?) Rainbow Trout and will be opened again to anglers, this Friday. Dino's on the Big C on Friday, Dino's on the Willy Saturday and "enormous" catch and keep Rainbow Trout on Sunday.....Life Is Good!!

One of "The Lakes" is small, but close to my house, about 16 miles away. Also Craig, didn't mean to hi-jack your thread Brother. I had forgotten about the Trout Planting until I read your gossip and got all excited...couldn't wait to share  ;D

Dave,

Post a WA thread when you find out which lakes. I'm up for a lake trip Sunday. Maybe even Saturday.

Sorry for the delayed reply Aytch and anyone else interested (Dinos were on the line). I've only been to two of the lakes. One is Battle Ground Lake, outside of Battle Ground and another is Kress Lake, outside of Kalama. Both have launches (no motors), but both are also very, very small. Unfortunately, I don't recall the other three as I tuned out once I heard names that were further away. They may be posted on the WDFW Web-site as they planted them for harvesting, but I'm not certain. ??? I was going to go to Battle Ground today, but too busy cleaning up from yesterday. I may go throw some flies at them on Monday or Tuesday and then crabbing on Thursday before Spot's presentation...another full week.  ;D

I'm up for Monday or Tuesday trout hunting. Let me know where and when. Fly rods, spinning or trolling?

Due to a lack of peddles (and paddling skill), I don't troll very well. I was thinking about throwing some flies, but never have at Battle Ground Lake. Come to think of it, I've never fished it at all. Do you want to meet up on Tuesday, at Battle Ground Lake. There may be a few big ones left that didn't get taken out in Wal-Mart shopping bags. Either way, flies or bait/spinning is fine with me and I think I'll just plan on going and being there at about 7:30....Dave

If there's a ramp to launch the IslandHoppa we can fish together. Two fly rods on the tramps would be cool.

Is the lake big enough to sail?

As it turns out, its a twenty eight acre lake. I don't know about sailing as there are lots of downed trees in the water as well as huge pines all around. Part of the lake is also a roped off swimming area. anytime I've been there it was to metal detect in the water/beach area as its only six feet deep there. I've seen divers there and I know Thunder Reef Diving (in Vancouver, toward the town of Salmon Creek) has held organized dives in the lake, where they spent the day removing trash. I'd say google it and see what you think.

Also, while searching for the acreage, I happened upon a blog where the author said, "I don't know why, but every year the WFWD releases ten pound rainbows into this lake"  ;D
