The tenmile/eel creek steelhead derby and the newly added smoked fish competition was held last weekend at spinreel park in lakeside. Of course i didn't catch any fish and i only bank fished anyway. The winning fish was a 14.5 pound pig...

I did enter my smoked salmon in the competition alomg with 44 others and i ended up 3rd! and won a fishing reel, i was stoked! ;D
See ya on the water..

That's impressive. Nice job dude. All the famous TV chefs have a catch phrase. What's yours?

ORC is pretty chock full of activities already. Maybe it could be a fundraiser if we did the Spring gear swap meet/sale event. $5 or $10 for tasting/judging/voting privileges. One of the craftsmen on here could make a plaque for the bragging rights?

I am going to buy a smoker.  Care to share a good recipe!  Oh, and the fish bonker you made that I won came in handy again last weekend.  Need some more bonker hardwood?  I have cherry, ash, oak, maple, and a very dark walnut.

That's ok about the recipe.  I am going to get a smoker in the near future and Pelagicpaddler's recipe looks easy and delicious.  Now I just need to convince my brother that I need to do it at his house since he works from home.  That way he can watch over it during the day.  As for the walnut, the center strip is the walnut, ash next to it, and cherry on the outside.  This is uncoated.

I use it for accent strips on my boats and for rub rails.  Here is what the walnut looks like coated in epoxy then marine varnish on the gunnel:

I have a few boards of it left, but I think there may be more in one of my brother's garages in Idaho.  The stuff was cut long before you or I were born (well at least me for sure ;D).  I believe my dad got it back in the 50's.  He had some 1 inch thick (actual 1 " not 1x material) 16 foot long 6 inch wide cherry boards completely free of knots but we had to cut them to 8 feet to get them out to Idaho from his shop in ND when he sold his shop and house a few years back.  If you want to give some a shot, that would give me an excuse to go to Sunset for some fishing later this Spring.  The maple boards are between 1 1/2 to 2 inches thick.

If it is not an overly large piece, I could mail you some chunks.
