Looking for folks to join me for some ocean fishing when the swells subside.  I'm in Portland and would be targeting the north Oregon coast.  I've never taken my kayak out in the ocean but have been surfing the Oregon coast for 15 years and am very comfortable out there.  I'll surf swells as big as 9 feet, but looking to go out in the kayak in 5 feet or below, preferably 3 or 4 feet, so I may be waiting awhile.  Would like to have a partner that has done this before.  I have a fish finder and VHF radio and believe I'm plenty ready, but it's always nice to have someone along in case something happens.  I can take two kayaks and would be happy to drive!

Once it opens just post up in the Oregon section and I'm sure there will be a couple of guys heading out. I'd go out with you as long as you have a decent boat and a safety flag. It's extra important with the swells, the power boats will thank you. Depoe Bay is the best spot to launch from for your first time. Welcome to the site too :)

I would highly encourage you and other "new guys" to attend and participate in the ORC (Oregon Rock Fish Classic).  Besides being a great chance to get out on the water and possibly win some sweet prizes and have a great time in the process. Most importantly IMO  You get to meet everyone and make connections that translate directly into future fishing trips. I'm way more inclined to throw out an invite for a day on the water to folks I've met in person before and know first hand how they carry themselves both on the water and off.

It wouldn't hurt to visit Next Adventure next Wednesday evening for some Kayak Fishing 101 given by our family member Rawkfish, and learn some tricks to prepare for your first launch.  Make some new friends along the way.

I've got some free mini noodles to give away next Wednesday night. Nice for wrapping leaders, etc. I use one for a lake anchor reel.

See you at the clinic.

Thanks for all the helpful advice guys!  I'll definitely be there Wednesday night and post my next invite in the Oregon section.  As for the rockfish contest, that sounds really fun.  I'll look into that.  Thanks again!

Sounds good.  I can likely go on a Mon or Tue if I plan a few days in advance.  I'll keep my eye on the swells and post to the Oregon page when the ocean calms a bit more.
