Gels and Oils?

No, not those kind. The fish attractant kind.

What kind of fish/prawn scent do you use with your bait/lures? I'm heading out to pick up some Salmon Slammer and some Mike's gels in a bit and was just curious if anyone here had a preference (beyond the use of WD-40 - ahhh, the old days)?

Salmon Hammer treated me really well last year. Not just for salmon but 2 of my keeper sturgeon seemed to love it. I always have a tube of Anise and of course, shrimp sent in my box.

I've had good luck with the procure gels. Mainly herring. The oils I think are not as good as the gel unless you are injecting them. I've always wondered how much they help but I know they don't hurt as I catch fish.

I don't like the gels dulling the finish on my bait or spoon so I lather a generous amount on my flasher, sinker or downrigger ball. Remember, oil or gel  is a no no on flies as it will kill the action for the most part..especially on marabou or any fuzzy stuff.

Pro-Cure Herring Gel for herring.  I like to fill the body cavity when trolling cutplugs.
Mike's UV Sandshrimp Gel on spinners and prawns.

Smelly Jelly anise has worked well for me in the past for salmon. Of course, nothing worked well for me last year!

Last year the Best thing working here on the Umqua ,was just Tuna oil from canned tuna, go fig, can't get much easyer than that,I saw the results worked great..
