Since I couldn't make it of to Pacific City with everyone today, and since i figured I-5 bridge would be a zoo for Springers, I opted for a quiet morning on the lake trout fishing yesterday. I wanted to break in my Outback and get some red mixed in with that yellow.
Started at Lacamas lake before sun up but quickly left due to high winds. From there I headed to Battleground Lake. The forecast called for rainy and overcast all day but it turned out to be a beautifully sunny day.
I ended up catching about 4 limits (catch and release) all on the surface. I waited for the schools to pop up and pick bugs off the surface and stealthily peddled next to them and tossed wooly buggers, pink worms, and the lure of the day the gold and red Super Duper. The Super Duper caught 75% of my fish today.

I ran into Yakidyak on the lake in his new Revo 13 (he also limited within the hour). I had a fantastic time breaking in the Outback. I ended up keeping 4 of the nicer fish and giving them to a family watching the fisherman from the bank.
Then my stupidity. As I was unloading my Outback in front of my house, I strayed from my routine when using the Yakima boat loader. I had the yak half off my roof rack when the front end slipped off the boat loader and scratched my window and dented my drivers side door. >:(

The front of my kayak bounced when it hit (from about 3 feet) causing some minor road rash on one side. I checked the hull a few times for fracture lines and couldn't find any so I hope it's ok.
All in all it was a good day. :)

Oh, man! That's a total drag.

We are heading to BG now, picking up 3 day WA license for my son and some Super Dupers at Big 5.

Come out later if you can.

Glad the fishing was good, sorry to hear about the accident. Sounds like the yak is OK and that is the important thing!

Envious you caught fish!  Just wait a few more trips you'll get over the scratches.  I'm missing the  passenger side mirror and th driver side mirror is loose. Best thing is mine despite the cosmetic flaws the fish don't seem to notice!

Hop, I wish. If the weather hadnt turned I would have brought my wife out to sit on a bench and read her book while we fished. As we were deciding it started to rain. Rats.

PDX, yak seems to be ok and you're right, I was more concerned with my yak than my car. :D

Kardinal, thanks for making me feel better. :) I thought I was alone in my quest to destroy my personal property.

Oh, and if you see a picture I a cat as my avatar (which has happened at least twice this weekend), it means I forgot to log out of NWKA on my iPad and my wife got a hold of it. For some reason she thinks it's funny. She could do worse I guess...

Nice fish!  Its good to hear about you getting first blood.  You and kardinal_84 are not the only ones who I have seen dents or damage on their cars.   ;)   I've been trying hard to avoid it.  The other day I had the Adventure up against the kayak stacker not tied down and made the mistake of assuming that it would just sit there without issue while I untangled my strap but I was wrong.  The wind picked up and pushed it off.  Luckily I caught it on its way down.  Didn't dent the car but it scrapped some of the plastic trim.

PDX, yak seems to be ok and you're right, I was more concerned with my yak than my car. :D

Nice Trout! I talk a lot about the salt fishing, but I honestly like fishing in lakes just as much. Something about just being out on a glass flat lake, loons calling in the background and fighting' feisty rainbows on a 5 weight that is just awesome!

Sorry about your truck. I just got a new truck last fall. Not even 10K miles on it yet. Now ya got me skeered to load up my outback on it!

Those gold Super Dupers caught me my biggest trout back when I was a kid in the sixties. First, a 22 inch 4lb Kamloops rainbow in British Columbia when I was 12, and then a nice 18 1/2 inch 2 1/2 pounder on a very cold morning during opening trout fishing at Crowley lake in the eastern Sierras a year later. Congrats on your great day of fishing. Sorry about your car. Whenever you see that dent, you will remember a great days fishing!

Yeah it was my first time fishing Super Dupers but they are a really solid lure. I picked up a couple different patterns such as chrome and red tip, and froggy flatfish pattern to try.
I'm not really as concerned about my car. I was really hoping I didnt do any serious damage to my kayak. I probably inspected it 12 times since yesterday. Seems to be ok. :)

Hey Paul.... Sorry about the kayak incident. I have had my share of close calls at loading and unloading my Revo using the dang boat loader. It can be out right dangerous. Especially for higher truck roof rack.  The most important thing is that you are not hurt.  You are a nice guy, Paul and I enjoyed your company on the lake. Thanks for sharing fishing tips with me. Take care.
