I made a post the other day about my fishing adventure with Ling Banger and Romian Redneck, but for some odd reasons it didn't show up. Probably because of I was exhausted and hit delete instead of post since my phone screen is tiny. All well.

It was an awesome first ocean fishing trip for me. The ocean was intimidating, but I knew I was in good hand and felt quite at ease knowing Ling Banger and Romanian Redneck were close by. I ended up with 2 decent size Lings and a 25" Cabby, which I thought was a Green Ling because of its green mouth. I have not get dialed in on the Black rock fish yet therefore didn't get any. It was very kind of Ling Banger to show us to rope in ocean fishing. He was very open in whatever questions or concerns I had in either safety questions or how to catch a fish questions. He carried himself like a true Pro. I also learned from Romanian Redneck. He helped me to realize that I don't have the world's strongest pair of legs. He zoomed by me with his Outback 2x if not 3x as fast as I could peddle with my Revo13. So in order to keep up with the guys, I had to both peddle and paddle at the same time. Thanks again Anthony and Paul for a great fishing adventure.

Antoine I still need to take a look at your mirage drive. I think the problem is your turbo fins aren't tightened down enough so you're not maximizing your kicks. If you want to let me know how your evenings look we can meet up or we can just do it this upcoming weekend of you're planning on fishing.
Had a blast with you guys. Fish were caught, new friends were made, and most importantly we all made it back in one piece (except for my rod).
Now when we doing it all again? ;)

You might want to check out what Roadrunner says about tuning Turbo fins over on the Hobie kayaking forum:

That dude is the expert on the subject of Mirage drives as far as I am concerned. The bottom line is that he recommends loose fins. But go read up on it and decide for yourself.

Kind of late in posting this, but great job in getting out there guys. Sounds like you all had a great first taste of salt. One of these days I will have to give that a try.

Sherminator that's a great article. Maybe Antoine's issue isn't the drive tension after all... Hmm....

Thanks Sherminator. I just finished reading the article. I will apply those ideas to my turbo fins on my next fishing trip.

Hope you're having a good time at the Redwoods Langston, you need a PFD for your pooch so he can come out with you.

I've thought about it but he likes chasing water and I'm afraid he'll jump out of the yak.

Lingbanger you saved my day. In a hurry to pack everything up for a three night camping trip to the redwoods and getting some fishing in on the way down, I forgot a paddle. What a complete bonehead move on my part. Thankfully Lingbanger busted a spare paddle out of his hatch at the boat ramp as I was about to have to pack back up and miss out on such a nice looking day. But it was one hell of a windy morning, I was getting blown all over hell's half acre as I don't have one of those spiffy things you all call a mirage drive or a drift anchor. I couldn't keep my jig on the bottom much less get it to the bottom before it was at a 45 degree angle. If I didn't know better it would have looked like I was trolling. Lingbanger threw me a tip to place my rod in it's holder and paddle into the wind (my back and shoulders are still sore). Finally my jig is staying on the bottom but I have to let the fish set the hook. I'm sure I missed a few. With all I had going on I was only able to get a ling to the surface before it jumped the hook and one cabbie. But at least I didn't walk away empty handed. I would have loved to stay out there longer but I had to make it down to Redwoods National Park for some great camping. The entire way down the water was temping me.
