Two kayakers this week rescued by the Coast Guard.  No mention if they were alone or not.

And this is why I've practiced self rescues in water deeper than I am tall, but near to shore.  Had that latest guy been able to self-rescue he could have simply continued on, rather than needing a chopper ride.

I'm not trying to pass judgement here as it is certainly possible that the guy was quite capable of self-rescue, but was prevented from doing so by an injury, or some other factor.

But I like to read these kinds of stories as they help to give me insight into what I need to do (or not do) to prevent being the subject of a similar news article.

Good call, but a pet-peeve of mine around here is people talking about "deep water" reentry. Reentry should only be practiced in "deep" water IMHO. "Shallow water reentry" isn't gonna help you much, even in a small lake.

Glad to hear everyone was alright.

I practice my shallow water entry just about every time I wheel my kayak in the water to go fishing.

Yea, thats the fun way to launch. Its just a completely different task than reentering when you can't touch the bottom...and the two shouldn't be confused.

We're heading this Sunday and testing out the drysuits. Gonna drag both the T13 and Revo cause neither has gotten wet since I bought them. I'll practice my self rescue on both. We should have the trailer done Saturday for its Maiden Voyage as well.
