Nice catch!  And matching expression.

I was going to write something else, but couldn't find the right words to avoid potential insult. ;)

I dunno.  I got 27.75 and 25 inch lings, and an underling.  But she scored a 25.75 inch ling and two rockfish, used her brand new lip grippers and plastic shampoo (rather vigorously I might add).  An overall great day out.  She couldn't post in the other thread because it's in the members' section (20+ posts).

The south wind was really strong, but used it to our advantage by pedaling up to it, and letting the wind slowly push us away.  Allowed us to hit a lot more structure that way.

Notice the rain on Ling lady's sunglasses.  I hadn't gotten my keeper Ling yet when she and Lee said their Irish goodbyes and went in, but not before they held up their game clip with the three Lings. I knew I'd better get busy and target 'em. I'd been casting to the rocks and retrieving down the slope, but that was mainly getting the rockfish bite. for the Lings, I needed to switch over to jigging straight up and down off the bottom in deeper depths.

It was a pleasure to meet you two, and I really enjoyed our go-out.

Lucky for me, I snagged and busted off the rockfish jig I was using with my spinning rod and my line got jammed and wound up in the outside of the spool (figure that out?). In the wind and rain, my patience was thin, so I grabbed my level wind already rigged with a big swim-bait, doused it with anchovy oil, and let 'er down to the bottom at 50'.  Took about 5 minutes before I was onto a good Ling. Got it aboard, sent the jig back down, and missed a huge yankdown. Not long after that, I hung up on bottom, lost my jig, became aware of how cold and tapped out I was getting (hadn't eaten anything since breakfast), so I went in.

I took home three small/med sized black rockfish, one decent kelp greenling, and my 25.5" Ling. Tossed back one frisky underling, too.

Yes, that's true, but after you left, my feeling of being sharkbait intensified thricely. One out of three wasn't such bad odds, compared to being the sole sitting duck leaving a fishblood trail over a steep drop-off to 50'.
My fish were bleeding in my rear well and it was draining out the scuppers. I didn't like the awkwardness of that diver's goodie bag that i was trying out, anyway, so I'm going back to using a 5 gal bucket and wet towel on cool days, for the rockfish and greenlings. I might have to get an insulated bag big enough for the Lings, for when it warms up more.

Time really flies when you're having so much fun. It almost seemed like you guys went in early, but we were out for a good three hours. It was only about 2:45 pm when I paddled in.
Did you see the crew of biologists doing beach seining for what I think must have been a forage fish and smolt survey? They were identifying, measuring, counting, and writing it all down while I was de-rigging.

I ate the greenling, some rockfish, and the Ling cheeks and trimmings tonight. Can't beat fresh caught!

Nah, I just suffer from residual paranoia from doing a little snorkeling with a spear over the reefs on Oahu back in the late 60's and early 70's. We used to put our fish on a stringer attached to a float that we dragged behind us on 25' of line. That way, any reef sharks attracted by the blood and wanting to grab the fish wouldn't be so much a danger to us.

For the record, the Landlord has never showed up to collect any rent around here. Been a while (1969) since that nearly 17 footer was caught in the Harbor entrance. It got tangled in a commercial fisherman's net. We've surfed here for decades (I started surfing here in 1979, after moving back to WA from Oahu) and to my knowledge, no one has ever seen one cruise the line-up.

I'm not so sure about some of the Sea Lions, though. They certainly are bold enough to try to steal your fish, if they figured it out that you had some lying there up for grabs in your rear well. Whatever you do, don't tell 'em!
We only saw Harbor Seals the other day. They are wary but playful, and not much of a threat. I've had 'em tag me in the foot and then pop up about 10 or 15 yards away, when surfing.
