We currently have 5 member positions defined.

Herring: 0-49 posts
Perch: 50-99 posts
Rockfish: 100-199 posts
Lingcod: 200-299 posts
Salmon: 300+ posts

Three people have reached salmon status so far.  Can you guess who without checking?

It's time to redo this, so I'm looking for suggestions.  It doesn't necessarily have to be fish categories.  I'll push up the top end and squeeze down the bottom some, so looking for perhaps 7-10 categories.

Good idea coos.  Herring IS bait!!!  I think I'll drop the first milestone (Herring) to 0-9 posts and restrict PM usage until you get there.  I've been reading up on how to keep forums engaged.  There is a certain amount of carrot dangling that is effective.  The trick is to set milestones that are achievable by reasonable action (in this specific case, posting a small minimum number of posts before allowing PM's) without turning off your audience.

I won't make any changes for a bit ... I want more feedback so keep it coming.  And when I do make changes, I'll sticky a post outlining the "rules of the road" so as not to make it confusing.  Another rule of forum management ... keep it simple and don't confuse the audience.

I know herring is bait, but herring doesn't sound very demeaning... ;D. My first idea was chum...

OK.  I made a "Krill" group for 0-9 posts.  I haven't changed any access permissions for that group yet so the only thing that changes is that Krill shows as the group for people with 0-9 posts.  Chum isn't really on the natural food chain, so I thought of Krill.
