Okay I just had to try the scupper mount kit from Lowrance.

One problem is the best scupper to use for the mount is also the one for the cart. So since this is on a outback I only have the small scupper holes by the seat to work with.

First problem and I didn't discover this until install day, was that the nut that holds the fish finder cord to the screen won't pass through the scupper! I'm gonna see how well it holds without the nut. So far seems plenty sturdy, and I also applied dielectric grease which seems to be giving it some extra suction

For the most part the kit itself fits fine through the hole but the trim cap won't latch on with both tabs due to the curves of the location.

The one good thing is that the 'ducer is nice and protected while still being in the water.

If I test this out though and I don't get better readings I'm gonna remove it and shoot through the hull again.

The main issue I had with shooting through hull  was the huge amount of surface clutter, 10 feet thick, I was getting and erratic returns. And it would always say there was a fish at 3 feet.

How did you route the cable in the yak to keep it out of the way?  I like the idea for my AI but worry cable management will make me crazy...

You will see in the picture I just coiled up the extra cable and put it behind the seat. Then that just leaves about 18 inches or so that is under the seat and makes the final connection to the fish finder. I have a through the hull fitting by the rudder up control that the battery leads are going through to the inside of the hull where the battery is. So the cable will be behind the seat, under the seat and between my thigh and the hull for the most part.

Do you transfer the FF to a different yak? If not, you can still route the cable inside the hull, just use a couple passthroughs and keep it all out of the way

So far just used it in freshwater. But my initial impression is I didn't gain any sensitivity. I'll take it out in the salt and see if it's any different.

Okay I used it in the salt. I see no difference between just shooting through the hull. I still have 10 feet of surface clutter

Matt,
you still having trouble with the nut and trim ring at the scupper? Common trick is to use a dremel or other grinding/sanding device, and bevel the flats of the nut and trim ring/washer tabs enough to allow them to be slightly countersunk into the upper end of the scupper. Just dont remove too much material or you seriously weaken them.

Demonick has good example of this in one of his posts
