Need to drill and tap 2 holes in a steel plate that snugs my trailer to the receiver.

//http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0042VNBP4/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_3?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B0001CMUV4&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1SK1T1BY7QV9KVQ897PG

Threads are stripped and I want to drill two ~3/8" holes. I have the bit and tap, just don't have a beefy enough drill press. Would like to get it done today before I drive to Depoe Bay.

When are you leaving?  I may be able to help you out.  Or, get this kit from Harbor Freight: http://www.harborfreight.com/3-piece-titanium-nitride-coated-high-speed-steel-step-drills-91616.html

 There is one at 7809B NE VANCOUVER PLZ DR STE 180, VANCOUVER, WA 98662Phone: 360-253-5318

I just used mine on my trailer last night.  They cut through steel like butter (well, maybe frozen butter).  I used a DeWalt cordless impact wrench/screw driver to drill mine, but that is because it was the first drill-like tool I found in my garage. Also, it has bigger huevos than my cordless drill.  A normal hand-held drill will work fine.  Wear eye protection, though.  It throws sharp little bits 'o steel.

Let me know, I will be around most of the day smoking 8.9 pounds of ribs. ;D
