Gotta say, I've got an older MacBook Pro that I've upgraded to 4 GB ram and a 1 TB drive. I've still got so much to learn on iMovie. I'm committed to getting this nailed down. Any experts out there on iMovie?

Thank you kfshr. It's good to know about the copy right infringement and your response to these accusations. I've heard of others being harassed about it as well. I'm bookmarking this thread.
I've heard really hold things about macs. Never owned one though. I have had multiple iPhones and I own an iPad 2 and I love em.

Here's a video edited using iMovie 09.  Look  at the use of photos, video, special effects and titling. Also forgive me for getting a little long.It does show there lots of ways to fly fish an AK river. The purpose of this video was to capture and share clips of last years action on our annual junket to fish Alaska with our friends . Adjust the volume as needed and set the resolution to 720p and go full screen if you can. I recently purchased  iMovie 11 and like it better. It makes handling sound editing much easier. You will notice that the selection of sound clips from Apple is limited and a little more jazzy than suits my  tastes, but hey ....

Select Salmon Fishing: Fly Fishing Lessons in Alaska (It's the 6th 0r 7th videon down the list)

Carl

By the way, there are other ways to handle music copyright  issues. PM if you want to talk more about that.

I think some people file claims as a scam to eliminate  the competition or or as a setup to scam some money.

Scams and lawsuits, the new american economy.

To answer my own question at the beginning of the thread, I ended up buying new software about a month ago. I had to since my Kodak software for the Playsport was somehow corrupted and unusable. Plus, the software is loaded on the camera, and the camera is at the bottom of the Willamette. In a way I am glad I lost the camera because I am a cheap bastard and I would probably not bought anything new.  I decided to purchase Serif MoviePlusx5.  It is awesome and easy to use!  I got it real cheap as part of a bundle with PhotoPlusx4 ( http://www.amazon.com/Serif-PMSUSMBRT-Photo-Movie-Suite/dp/B004XO6UOY/ref=sr_1_6_title_1?s=software&ie=UTF8&qid=1337204877&sr=1-6 ).  I highly recommend it, especially for the price.

I'm not going to be much help other than a quick story to share. I went through alot of frustration trying to figure out movie editing on a pc.

I saved up and got a Mac. Holy cow! Movies are super easy to do on that thing. Its about plug and play with the gopro on it. No regrets getting the Mac.

Also your right. Hd videos need alot of ram and processor speed to process and edit correctly so that could be another issue your having if your computer isn't up to snuff.
