Hey....so I'm going to Seward next weekend to entertain some guests, and of course I want to fish.  Do any of you know some good spots (that you are willing to share) that are not too far away?  I'll take anything....flounder, halibut, salmon, lings, rockfish....I just wanna catch a fish or 10.

Thanks for the input.

I've been putting in lots of time out of Seward, and I've found fish in lots of places that are easy to access. I wanted to get familiar with places I could safely fish solo, in hopes of developing local knowledge and a little skill in time for the onslaught of salmon.  So, here's what I can offer -- no secrets here.

1. Lowell Point as launch:  This is the west side of Resurrection Bay.  Heading south from Lowell Point, pass by Tonsina Creek toward Callisto Point.  I've been fishing the ledges between Tonsina and Callisto pretty heavily, and have been regularly picking up rockfish, flounder, small halibut. So far, no salmon here. Plenty of cod and sculpin for your quest of 1000 though.

2. Lowell Point as launch: Heading north toward Seward, between the fish processor at Lowell Creek toward Miller's Landing is a good stretch. Lots of opportunistic fish feeding off the discharge from the fish plant, this has been a good place on the ebb tide and very protected when the wind is blowing out of the south.

3. Fourth of July Creek as launch: Heading south past the dry dock -- this area doesn't get much pressure at all, and I've found yelloweye rockfish here, along with Pacific cod.

4. Fourth of July Creek as launch: Heading north toward the woodpile and the mouth of the Resurrection River.  Last month this was the place to harvest sockeyes, and although the run materialized late I suspect it's pretty much done by now. When the winds are out of the north, this has been my destination.  Pinks and chums should be starting to show around Fourth of July Creek; it's what gives the area (Spring Creek) this unofficial name.

Have fun and be safe.  Did you finally get that dry suit?

Got the suit, and got it trimmed to fit comfortably.

Thanks for the info.

Good info.  I fished both those launch areas from the shore last year and hooked up with a single silver.  I will be fishing out of Seward on Monday... though not sure where yet.  Will report successes upon my return.

My first coho last year was July 23 by Tonsina Creek.  Then on July 30th, I HAMMERED cohos just off the launch at Miller's landing.  I think we are still early but I want to try and get to Seward to fish Chums for AOTY points.  They are hitting hard in the hatcheries in PWS now.  I have to believe a few are showing up off Spring Creek and Tonsina about now.

I like Miller's landing area because it is more sheltered.  But IO think the runs are larger on the other side of the Bay near Spring Creek.  Hmmm..decisions decisions...

I'm going to Seward this weekend with my house guests.  I told them I couldn't hang out all the time because I had to do some fishing.

Probably hitting up the inlet next weekend though.

Caught fish south of Lowell point....nothing big enough for points though.  Any suggestions for a good shot at small buts or big flounder?

You might find starry flounders in the brackish water closer to the head of the bay. My son landed a decent one right off the harbor purrs and lost one that pulled twice as hard. Otherwise I might try and target arrowtooth but I hear they are deep like 300ft plus. No big deal except when you start pulling pcod up one after another from that depth.

Butts close in is hit or miss. Hooked a few from Lowell point to Tonsina creek. I think Rimfire Matt did ok on the spring creek side.

Trying to get down to land a chum for AOTY points.
