I HAVE to go fishing this Saturday.  Mid July and I haven't gotten out at all!

Dependent on weather:

1st choice: Cook Inlet.  Target Halibut and maybe try to figure out if I can catch reds on rod and reel.

2nd choice: Seward.  Would like to try Fourth of July Creek for Pinks, chums and halibut.  I may try Miller's landing.  I caught my first coho July 23rd last year near Tonsina and I hear they are late.  Having said that, I've heard a few being caught near Caines Head.

3rd Choice: Whittier.  I NEVER catch anything in whittier.  But weather might force the issue.

Anyone else headed out?

Plan at the moment is for Cook Inlet for halibut Friday, then up to Seward for Saturday -- where I'll let wind direction dictate whether I start at 4th of July or from Lowell Pt.  Waiting just now to hear the early morning halibut report from the guys in the rowboat...

Rudy, if you get out on Sat send me a PM or text. Maybe this is the day we get to fish together. I'm spending Fri night in Seward for an early start. Dave will be paddling with me on the Seward portion.

Mid July and you haven't even been on the water yet ???  ??? ??? ::) ::)

  I'm shocked ...

Sounds good AKfishergal.  I'll make the call depending on weather but I am fishing somewhere dang it!

Mark,  I got out a few times.  One king before the closure and one halibut.  Other than that its been P-Cod and herring.  The low king returns really put a damper on my May and June fishing.

Waiting for the reds to show for dipnetting and shore fishing.  Cohos should show in Seward in about two weeks.  This is a slow time of year for me even when I had the powerboats running.

Job's been crazy.  A lot more traveling. Life outside of job has been crazy...got engaged...  I am just a glutton for punishment.  That's ok.  Just need to squeeze more fishing in!!!!!!!!!!!

  Hi Rudy,
I've been watching all the closures up your way lately.I get updates from ADFG when they put out ER's.
Except for the sockeye fishing (no comparison down here) I'm not really missing living on the Kenai.Hopefully the red runs will be stellar.I'm positve you will be out for them.
Got engaged eh ? Good luck buddy. Is your new squeeze a fisherlady ?I'd think that would have to be a prerequisite, knowing you.
Warm wishes at you from Washington.Take care my friend.

The rowing-for-halibut crew didn't get out today due to wind, and my Seward-based friend didn't get out from Seward either.  I'll get a report tonight from Kenai, and keep the marine forecast sites up for frequent checking. One way or the other, there's going to be fishing over the next two days...  I'll keep you updated about Saturday's conditions, as I'm still likely to be in Seward at the start of the day.

Congratulations on the engagement -- a certain special PhD candidate? Wonderful news -- grab some happiness.

The OTF numbers on the sockeyes jumped today, so I'm counting 6 days out...  Love those huge Kenai reds.  Now, how am I going to fit a net AND the Revo on top of my car? Must work on that.
