I am definitely interested in trying that.  In fact this whole scuba thing started because I walked into a dive shop looking for a wetsuit for free diving. 

I really would like to try spearfishing.  Not too sure how I feel about the Landlord situation at Pacific City though. 

How well does that shark repellant work?

Ain't no dangerous sharks in WA. One maybe two White shark have been seen. One attack in Oregon. (Certain to be corrected on this one  ).  I think those are pretty good odds. If your worried about it make sure you dive with a buddy...one that is slower than you

I think there were two attacks on surfers in OR last year, plus a sighting at our local spot. They're there.....

I'm getting back into free diving this fall, been slowly replacing old gear with new and I'm looking forward to some fall/winter crab grabbing to get back in shape and get the ball rolling. Hope to graduate to offshore exploring by next summer. 

Do you guys have any wetsuit recommendations? 

I want to avoid a fancy lubricant-necessary open cell type if possible.

I have gotten mixed reviews of some of the new super-flexible closed cell suits for free diving. 

Never seen a "new" type of wetsuit that lived up to the hype.  I stick with the standard zipper up the back surf-style wetsuit.  I like O'Neil Heat 4/3, but whatever fits is the best one. Try them on before you buy, the fit will vary drastically.

You will freeze (or at least have very limited down time till you get chilled) off the Oregon coast/bays in a 4/3.  Trust me I tried it.  I'll be purchasing an open cell 7mm free dive suit. Hood, gloves, booties in the 5mm ballpark are a must too.   

Oh yeah...forgot to mention that I'm 72% polar bear. A 4/3 suit is very light for these parts. I agree 7 mm is more standard.

Yeah that's kind of what I was afraid of. The shop said I might be able to get away with a 4/5 semi dry but I would end up needing a ton of weight if I had to go up to a 7/8 closed cell.

I guess I will just have to try some out.
