moving to Portland this August. and looking for some info for fishing the local rivers/lakes and the coastal fishing.

What seasons are open?
Where to launch, for both Salt and Fresh water.

I use both a  Prowler13 and a Native ultimate 14.5.

thanks

Welcome to Portland. You picked a great place to live. We've got tons of variety of fish and a million places to go find them. Your question is pretty broad on places to go so my advise is keep an eye on the forum on upcoming outings and go with some of us locals. Great way to meet new people as well as places to fish.

Welcome to the site. Where are you moving from? There are tons of options all year long, what do you usually fish for?

thanks for the welcome.

I am moving from Capitola/Santa Cruz CA. Been doing lots of Saltwater fishing for Halibut/RF/WSB/Stripers this year and last.

I love being on the ocean fishing the most, and will miss the warm water of Monterrey Bay!

As for the rivers-yeah I realize there are lots of options for river/lake fishing too. I did live in North Idaho and got to paddle and do a lot of fishing there as well-I am kinda spoiled in where and what I have fished for coast to coast and central america as well.

I've been pretty active on the Norcal site this year, and will miss those guys  :(

The Bay Area is great but you're going to love all the options within two hours of Portland. The most popular areas to fish the salt are Depoe Bay (nice protected harbor launch) and Pacific City (surf launch). Close to Portland you of course have the Willamette and Columbia rivers. August will be the start of the fall salmon (Chinook and Coho, Kings and Silvers only live in CA :) ) season on the Columbia and also some coastal bays.

The Willamette river around Portland is a great spot for C&R Sturgeon and small mouth that time of the year. You also have the Sandy and Clackamas very close as well. There are lots of launches around. Send me a PM when you get into town and I'd be happy to show you around Depoe, PC, or PDX.

Welcome to the PNW...so much better than the Bay area.Nicer people obliviously.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent
