To protest the obnoxious jewelry commercials on TV during Valentines Day I opted to buy wifey a OK Venus 11 (pink) from Sportsmans Warehouse instead of the $5k tennis bracelet (good on me).

So far, looks like it was a good move - pretty sure I will be able to finagle additional funds allocation for rigging the Hobie under the guise of working on both boats...

Anyway, I noticed at the Sportsmans Warehouse, they were storing all the Yaks vertically - is this an accepted method for storing a yak?

I have been storing the Hobie face down under the trailer of the big boat, am hoping to be able to store the Venus upright, lucky to have 12' ceilings in the boat barn - anybody see any problems with this?  Don't think it will cause any distortion problems with the hull - probably should make sure I am not blunting the stern over time....

Damn, that's two boats, still need one or two for the kids - going to be an armada by Summertime.

Perfectly acceptable.  See here ... http://www.oceankayak.com/product_support/storage.html

Kayaks should be stored on edge, upside down, standing, or hanging horizontally.

Good on you for getting the wife a yak!!!

Vertically is actually probably one of the better methods of kayak storage, but most of us don't have the room.  Storing them horizontally on their side is also pretty good.  Top down is okay for the most part.  Basically you want to prevent bowing, warping, etc.. and  storing them on a more rigid part of the kayak helps.

Probably the worst way to store your kayak would be fully loaded with gear, outside, uncovered in the heat/sun on two saw horses bottom side down.

I also think some kayaks store better than others, particularly smaller ones like your wife's Venus that are less likely to bow under their own weight.

storing vertically is fine, that's how we store all of our boats here:

Only recommendation I have is put a bit of padding underneath, just to ease any point pressure. Hope your wife enjoys her Venus. Both my mom & daughter paddle it, and the both love it. Here's my daughter out in hers last summer:
