Went down to Outdoor Emporium yesterday looking to pick up a couple of downrigger cannonballs, 4# and 6#, but the smallest they had was 8#.

Anyone have suggestions on a source for smaller balls such as 4# and 6#?

Cabela's generally has a good selection of smaller sizes.

I can check at Wholesale Outfitters in Silverdale and see if they have some.  Happy to pick up what you might need if you are willing to come pick them up (and maybe teach me something about fishing out of the tupperware, which should be easy because I'm a clueless noob).
Kayak fishing?  I have no clue, but I'm doing it.

Thanks for the offers.  I rarely get to Puyallap or Silverdale.  I've not been to the new Tulalip Cabela's, and although I've used many of John's reference information I've never been to the store.

Demonick, silverdale store had plenty of 8/6/4 pound downriggers balls. If you want some picked up, say he word. I will be headed to the Seattle side Friday evening and staying through Saturday morning. If you don't monday meeting near the airport, I don't mind picking up what you need.

I got a 4# and 6# ball at John's in Everett.  The 6# is a bona fide downrigger ball with fin.  The 4# is just a cannonball.

Any problems with using just a round, finless cannonball?

The shakedown cruise for my new DIY downrigger mount on the Revo13 had mixed results.  The mount performed very well - see the thread in Drillin' & Cuttin'.

Unfortunately, the new 6# ball is at the bottom of Puget Sound.  50# braid is not sufficient for a 6# ball.  Admittedly, it was a beginner's mistake - I reeled up the ball, let go of the handle and the ball dropped.  The auto-brake engaged and jerked the ball up short beyond the breaking strength of the line.  Bye-bye ball, large Sampo swivel, and line release.  I can't guarantee I'll be a perfect downrigger in the future so I need a line with a wider margin for error.  Going with 80# or 100# if I can find it.
