I've heard that the rockfish and ling cod there have fish AIDS, the bad kind.  Uncurable.  Worth staying away from (not that it matters, Farmers Almanac shows the swell is supposed to be straight west 14' at 5 seconds the rest of the year)

i'll be out there for that weekend, although i'm not sure about where i'll be fishing.  likely inside the strait for salmon as i have no interest in bottomfishing in august at neah bay.  i'll probably be camping at hobuck as it is nice and quiet for the most part.

as for it not being worth it, for me every rock, kelp bed, and tide rips brings back a flood of memories that only add to the fishing experience.  the whale, otter, seal, sea lion, puffins, murre, auklet, and other bird sightings only add to the experience.  if the only reason to fish is to fill a cooler you're only going to become more and more disappointed as the years go on with the state of our fisheries and management in washington state.

Yeah I travel a lot for fishing, spend a lot of my money on fishing, and it is a life long passion that I have enjoyed since I landed my first fish from a kayak 41 years ago this summer.  I can pack it up and head to Oregon, BC, Alaska if or when the fishing opportunities dry up here.  I don't believe in the fairy tales that fisheries management tell, there primary goal is the justification of their own existence through the creation of crisis management.  If they are serious about making a difference, then make it more difficult to catch fish - remove motors from the equation, make us earn our fish.

...you haven't noticed those overhead lights installed at Hobuck 2 years ago that stay on all night?  Haven't had an 11 pm alcohol raid by the rez cops on your cooler? Haven't had the party crew show up at 2 am and keep it rocking until 4 am?  You should get out there more often.

Wow!! Only been to Hobuck 1 time about 2 months ago and found everything there to be just fine. It's a great spot as is Neah Bay if one choses to explore a bit and talk with the locals. We plan on being at the campground on Thursday. Hope to meetup with a few of you.

Looking at going to neah bay early Sunday morning for the first time...  Any advice would be helpful.  Going for salmon, but might try for some  top water action from some sea bass on the fly rod.  Where does everyone put in with there yaks?

Wow Yaktrap!  My only visit to Hobuck was last weekend where there we no raids, no parties, great family atmosphere, nice new acquaintances that shared much knowledge and decent fishing. Even the noob caught some fish.

Be warned though, those territorial gray whales will breach beneath you, blow hole through your scuppers and fluke flap any kayaks they can. Mean things like to watch us self rescue I guess. Safer to stay home, watch reruns and hide your beer from the tribal police.
Kayak fishing?  I have no clue, but I'm doing it.

It is with deep regret and a failing image of how one used to be that we are cancelling our plans for Hobuck this week. A head cold has exaserbated my Menieres Disease and my condition would not be appropriate to being on the ocean for myself or for that matter, would not want others to be responsible for my safety
out there. If you still go, catch a big ling for me and be safe.

They canceled our reservations to give our cabin to those people.   Hey Allen, maybe we could find your friend at that gathering...
