Checked it out today again for the first time is a couple weeks, was a tough call, coho in the river or ocean Kings.  Hooked 5 in all, kept a nice 5 or 6 lber.  Plenty of action but had to resort to trolling.  Caught one on a jig.  This gear will catch you fish if they are around.

Awesome! I'll have to give it a try when I can make it out.

Hit it again Sat, 6 hook ups, all trolling, got 3 to the boat but all were just a little undersized.  Had one on that I'm sure was a nice sized fish.  It closes the end of the month and re-opens mid Feb. in area 6.  Area 5 opens in Nov. and I'm thinking about Blackmouth in the AM and Seabass in area 4 in the afternoon if we get cooperative weather.

I can probably get out for a bit Friday & Sat.  I have a B-day party Sat at 1pm.  Hooked all the fish between Tongue point and the Madrona Hole, most in shallow water, under 60'  One was out in deeper water though.  The cookies and cream spoons have been good producers for a while now.

The weekend forecast is looking a bit problematic, sometimes big west swells take out the launching option, or make it challenging, there is always freshwater bay though.

Weekend forecast looks pretty slimey.....may stay on Vashon and mooch  for blackmouth, the dogfish seem to have departed for parts unknown

How's the black mouth mooching around Vashon? Any luck lately?

Well, good luck.  I'm hoping to get out again before it closes.  Been the best I've ever had it.  One of these days I could use a mooching lesson.  Only caught Dogfish that way, but the guys who know what they are doing kill them mooching.

Blackmouth just starting around Vashon,  fish are around 20 inches.   To foil dogfish, keep the bait moving!  Hit bottom, crank 3-4 cranks immediately, pause 5 sec, then 4-5 cranks, pause, until you're about 20 feet from the surface, repeat until you get a hit.  Feed the fish, don't strike until the rod really dips.

Lee, I don't have a downrigger setup on my yak.  this is what I've used for Kings and coho in the Strait.  I have had the most success crack of down trolling along the kelp beds in relatively shallow water, the main reason is my lack of ability to effectively troll deep without a down rigger.  But Kings feed shallow this time of year cause thats where the bait often is.

I would rather catch them on a jig like the one pictured, and have hooked dozens of them on jigs like this.

Good bump---we fished area 6 last week, got limits of 4 fish every day, from 12 to 30# on White Lightning Coho Killers and WL Coyote spoons.

Bryan----Doesn't area 6 reopen for kings Oct 1  ?????

Nice work Kallitype!  I've missed the bite every time I've been out, post up some pics will ya.  Was out with Topwaters this AM, no fish for me :(

Yes it reopens for all Salmon Oct 1, by then the Kings are gone, but Blackmouth are around, last year in big numbers, some years the coho come in close too.

I'm guessing that is 2 fish apiece right ;) Cause this isn't a pink year.
