So I went out at Port Townsend to mooch for chinook and put my pass I got with my license in the rear view mirror of my truck before I went fishing. When I got back there was a $100 ticket on my truck that said my pass wasn't valid and needed a Discovery Pass. So we need to buy a license which comes with some kinda pass and we need another one too.... I'd figure if we paid so much to fish we'd at least buy the privilege to park at water access points too. Sure I've made a mistake but it seems pretty ridiculous..

I always do that trick as well but know about the whole clusterf* that is the Discover Pass vs. the essentially useless pass that comes with the combo license.  The one that comes with the combo is only good on WDFW properties....wherever those may be.

As an aside the Discover Pass has brought in far less than they projected, http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/politics/2018828146_parks02m.html.

Zee if you go out and buy a yearly Discover Pass for 30 bucks and call the number on your ticket you can potentially have the ticket overturned. My buddy did that and they asked him for his yearly discover pass ID number and waived the fee. They didn't seem to concerned with the fact that it was purchased after the fact. Worth a shot...

This has worked for a couple of my friends too.
Kayak fishing?  I have no clue, but I'm doing it.

Welcome to Gov. Gregoire's world.

It's not about fairness, it's all about revenue.  A quote from the Dept. of Parks and Recreation website...

"Q. Where will I need a Discover Pass?
A. The pass is required on state recreation lands and water-access sites managed by Washington State Parks (State Parks), Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) and Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR). These lands include state parks, water-access points, heritage sites, wildlife and natural areas, DNR and WDFW campgrounds, trails and trailheads and all DNR managed uplands (natural areas and trustlands, but not aquatic lands. "

You probably had the foolish notion that your WDFW license purchase paid for something.    If you believe in the strict interpretation of the words above, you would still be due a fine even on WDFW managed lands with your WDWF permit.

You and I probably believe that fines from traffic camera's make us safer.  The fines they charge us are for our own good :police:

It's all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

The government doesn't believe in common sense or fairness unless the courts force them to.

Drop by my place sometime and I'll buy you a beer and we can bitch about how is REALLY-SHOULD-BE...

Sad to think I didn't even recognize the good-old-days when I was living in them.

That sucks, they must have smartened up. I was out at Fort Warden couple weeks ago and used my WDFW pass. They left a envelope and a note saying please pay and where to go find the Ranger. I just threw that crap away >:D

Check list of passes to have to have.

Good to go pass..
WDFW fishing/hunting lands pass
Discover Pass
Sno-park Pass

Ever notice that some parks or beaches you dont need a pass ? baffles me sometimes ???

Yeah the pass situation is ridiculous.  There's the WDFW lands pass, which comes with the license (yeah, never seen one of those), there's the Northwest Forest Pass, to park on forestry lands I guess, and there's the discover pass for state parks.  I have a vague notion that the discover pass actually includes the others as well but I am not sure about that.

bottom line is, yes, it's just another angle to screw ya.  And I could SWEAR we were already paying for state parks thru taxes.  Weird.

All these passes, add the Bureau of Land Management pass too.  My dashboard looks like a government conglomerate political freaking advertisement. Sad state that finds couch creative and clarity lacking ways to put the screws to us.

Yeah, the WDFW pass is pretty much useless.  Sorry to hear about your run-in with the Bobbies.

You need to change the topic title.  It's not the wdfw that created the discovery pass.   Point the finger where the blame really lies.

I agree though, sucks having to buy all these separate passes

Discover Pass is to mane sure state union workers get pensions. Wdfw manages and backs the pass. This pass when combined with the others at state parks, usfs. Etc make it impossible for anyone under the poverty line to enjoy the PUBLIC land. When you consider the price of gas a poor person could barely go out to some places once. A year let alone affordnthe parking. Brought to you by elitist liberals who can't. Think critically or make tough decisions. Poor grammar feomcell phone.
