Had a little issue (f*ck Thule) on my drive up this afternoon that will require me to rent a kayak to salvage the weekend.  Does anybody know of a place in Tacoma or vicinity that rent 'em?  Thanks.

As far as rentals
http://www.fossharbormarina.com/watercraft-rental.html

What water where you looking to paddle on?   I am 20 minutes from Tacoma by Lake Tapps  and have one or two you could borrow.
I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

Thanks for the link Craig!  My buddy lives up in the 6th ave area and we are looking to hit either in front of Pt. Defiance/slagpile-ish, Browns Pt or Chambers - originally we were thinking about trying a little of everything.  I know the Lake Tapps area well, a buddy I'm supposed to visit just got back from fighting the fires back east lives up there.  Are you fishing tomorrow?

If I didn't have to work in Seattle early tomorrow,  I would bring you a couple of  fishing kayaks for you to use.  Your welcome to borrow them if you don't mind the drive to come pick them up.
I am hoping to hit the water on Sunday if I get my project wrapped up on Saturday.

Looks like they also rent kayaks from Owens Beach near Point Defiance but don't start renting until noon.

Appreciate it Craig!  I don't mind the drive, hell I've already gone 2.5 hours.  I'm likely going to be up there tomorrow regardless, I'll ping you via the forum and worst case scenario maybe we can fish together sunday AM.  Looks like I've got a few rental options, and just found out a buddy locally picked up an old tandem so I can use that tomorrow, so not all is lost!

Nothing but the usual bow line (or maybe stern line, dunno, happened pretty quick) break causing yak to get outta whack and straight fucktified the metal (think pretzel and you'd be damn close), boat headbutted I-5 than did some sort of Shaun White/Xgames/Mctwist styley manuevers at freeway speeds.  Fortunately there weren't any tailgating jackasses on my bumper and I roll granny style slow lane with the yak on the roof and no people or other property was injured, just my yak and a few bumps on the car.  Could have been far, far worse.

you strapped your kayak down with only a bow and stern line?

HA!!  No.  I only mentioned those lines as I was armchair QBing the situation after and thinking that maybe one of those broke causing the whole shit:fan chain reaction.  There was the bow and stern line plus two lines across the middle of the boat onto the rack.  When the plastic on the cradles broke and metal pretzeled it appears that the other connection points didn't make a lick of difference, though I have no idea in what order things failed.  Maybe the metal failed first?  Dunno, my eyes were on the road and not watching the roof of my car when it happened.

Any pics of the carnage?

Also which cradles were you using?

oh man, that sucks. I was thinking (from your prior post) that it was cause by improper securing.. a lot of people blame companies and their products for user failure.
you should take pictures of the rack, kayak, and your car and get in contact wih a Thule rep and see what they will do for you. after you report to your insurance company of course!

Sorry to hear man. Your auto insurance won't cover it, only home owners or a separate boat policy.
