Allen

I'm out in the Columbia Gorge.  Been fishing from my kayaks for a few years now.  Can get around much faster and cover more distance with the kayak as opposed to my pontoon.  I mainly fly fish but will throw the metal depending on who I'm with and what they like to do.  I also enjoy quite a few other sports the Columbia is known for.
Spectrums are made in Mosier, OR.  Both the double and single are very stable boats.  I use my double as a single most of the time.  The single works well also but with the extra two feet the double is my favorite.

I just found this forum and have enjoyed what I have read so far.

Hi Ellliot,

I love little stable maneuverable kayaks especially for families/kids.

How does the Spectrum compare to, say, a Malibu Mini-X?

Thanks, -Mendocino Matt

I just read that the Specrum Kayaks are a Mom and Pop manufacturing company.  They only have two models and only make what they can themselves. For those who like to buy locally from small Northwest companies, this might be a decent option if you're looking for a small kayak.

Anyway, I found some info..

The Spectrum Solo kayak is a great boat for those folks who fish from kayaks.  It has a big
tank well with room for tackle boxes, coolers, and bait buckets.  You sit a bit higher in the water in this kayak, which provides better visibility for fishing.  The design is inherently
stable, so you can move around a bit without worrying about spilling your gear.  The Solo
has another neat feature: a molded seat well for a small fishing buddy.  This is also a good kayak for folks who want a general purpose kayak with good stability.

Spectrum Solo, $489.00 (Shipping Included in Price)
Length.....................11'-9"
Width.......................31"
Depth......................14"
Weight....................50 lbs
Max Weight Capacity..........375 lbs.
Colors: Yellow, White, Orange, Teal, and Mango

Standard Features:
Accessory eyelets for seats, etc
Self Bailing Cockpit (Scupper Holes)
Linear Polyethylene Construction (Long Lasting, Durable)
UV: TAG 8000 (Resists Deterioration From Sun)
On Deck Storage With Cargo Straps
Drain Plug
Drink Holders
Carry Handles

Looks like the Spectrum is a bit longer and narrower than a mini-X (9' x 33.5").

The Island Sports page is very old and not a distributor anymore.  Yes it is a small local operation run by a friend of mine.  That should be a good thing. The kayaks are of high quality and used as rentals in HI., and all over the rest of the country.  If they hold up to the rental trade they should hold up to someone like myself that takes good care of my toys.  I don't know the exact specs as I have never measured them.  I think the single is either 10 or 11' and the double is about 13'.  If you are ever in the Hood River area and want to take a look give me an email.  If it is a flat no wind day on the river would be happy for some company to do a little small mouth fly fishing (depending on the time of year)
