I am running Yakima round bars and I don't know why one of the A1 gutter mounts came loose.   
This was noticed while loading.
Just a reminder to take a look at your gear.

Thanks for the heads up.  Equipment like that tends to go unchecked because it is expected to just work.  That would have been a bad  thing to find out on the road!
Water everywhere, but not a drop to drink.

Good reminder.  I keep the allen key they provided in the glove box and check my racks every time.  No excuse not to, takes 30 seconds if the tool is right in the car!

Sometimes if you're not using the suggested distance between the two towers for your rig they can loosen up. Or I'd you drive too fast :)

I've put on a lot of high speed miles with 3 yaks on a Yakima rack.  Things to look for are:
- Dented roof.  This will allow the rack to travel and require a re-adjustment.
- Slippage.  I've seen both the front and read racks move up to 2".  :o
- Settling.  Your straps may loosten up over miles as the the kayaks settle into position.

I think I would have lost my racks on several occasions if it weren't for the religious use of a bow tie-down line.

i think bow and stern lines are the most commonly missed safety failure with loading kayaks on roof racks.
