A little bit of common sense was needed.  This is something I am very paranoid about, so don't grumble at me if you think I'm asking you to help carry kayaks well above high water mark.    ;)

I think Howard McKim had a similar incident recently, but fortunately he had the big boat with him and they were lucky enough to find the yak adrift out wide.

4 kayakers rescued by Coast Guard from Saddlebag Island WA

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

SEATTLE -- The Coast Guard reports it came to the rescue of four stranded kayakers from Saddlebag Island east of Anacortes, Wash.

No injuries are reported.

The Coast Guard says the four became stranded around 5 p.m. on Sunday after their kayaks washed away, while they were hiking on the island.

The Coast Guard says one of the kayakers was able to swim out to the three kayaks that washed away. It says the kayaker then paddled to the mainland to call for help.

Skagit County contacted Coast Guard Station Bellingham to assist the remaining four kayakers.

I wonder if they'll get charged for the rescue.

No radio and not even a cell? ???

read howards' account of the morning of panic last night. and yeh, i can understand how you can get attached to your boat emotionally , especially when making your living from it.. to paraphrase Heinlein, " the sea is a harsh mistress.."

and why shouldn't they get charged? the least they could do is pay for the fuel the boat used to go pick them up....

I'm left to wonder why the kayaker that was able to swim to his own kayak couldn't somehow round up the other kayaks and tow them back to the group.

If at first you don't succeed....  maybe skydiving is just not for you.
