I'll see your spey question, and raise you one tenkara. Possible? A matter of "why bother?" I'm morbidly curious about the practice. I like the minimalism of it all, but it seems suited for hiding one's body next to tiny streams...

Can you say "Sleigh Ride"?

i have never heard of this, but a quick search leads me to belive this is sort of like the old bamboo rod with a fixed line, no reeling, just pull the the fish in.  I would think "Sleigh Ride" is right.

NCW, that's pretty much what it is - the modern incarnation of said bamboo style. Seems like a blast. Just wondering the efficacy beyond small mountain streams...

I've used a similar technique many times with normal fly rods - love it. Always called it "dapping".
Most areas I've used this are thickly covered. Plus I've had to cover a lot of ground looking for the active fish in skinny water, so I don't know if it'd work well while in a floating device.

Another thing about tiny streams is that they usually have tiny fish. I can't imagine this would turn out well with a large salmonid on the other end. I've caught large brown trout dapping around corners and was glad I had extra line.

However, the take is explosive, ofttimes by an unseen fish, and usually your very first attempt results in a fish on. This all adds up to a big smile on your face.

Try it and let us know how it goes. :D
(I'm just unsure if Hagg + bass + Tenkara = success)
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.
