I have to admit I love my home waters, some of the spots I've fished many times  but they still hold intrigue for me.  Saturday I got out for a solo day that I really needed, wasn't rushed to much, didn't even leave early.  I chased Salmon near Pillar Point in the AM with no success, did have 2 hookups, one felt like a nice one.  Then pulled the boat out and headed west for an afternoon of bottomfish in a spot I frequent.  I was looking shoreward while dragging live bait for Ling and noticed a nice mist near the beach where I launched, must be a whale, orcas had been seen in the strait a couple weeks back so I was wondering but it turned out to be a gray well inside the kelp line, in 15' of water.  I got some vid but still don't know how to post it, I'm gonna try.

As far as fish went, it was slow but managed a couple bass, 27" ling and a honkin Cabby.

Very nice!  I wish I lived where you can keep lings for more than 6 weeks out of the year.  Not to mention having legal rock fish retention.

Hope you can make J, I'll try to make it work.

Yeah this is an enviable situation I have here, The big B isn't so bad either though Rory.

As far as regs go, yeah they suck in this state, it is insanity.  Still Overfishing is a reality here.  When I first started fishing here there was no limit on bottom fish.  And the commercial guys had no limit on the Ling's in the  Islands, they almost fished them out, something had to be done, I'm not saying they got it right, but at least they did something.  I'm just hoping when the fish do come back we will get to fish again.
