So I'm buying a new kayak this week if I can make my mind up on what to get . I like the wilderness systems tarpon its made in the USA and seems well built nice seat... the weight capacity is 350 and has a width of 30" .my other option is an ocean kayak big game prowler doesn't seem as nice but the weight capacity is 450-500 pounds . But its not USA built .. also considering putting a few bucks with it and getting a trident 13 .
One thing I should say is I found a decent deal on a tarpon120 in my town not my first choice of color but good deal and available now . Anyway I need some advice . I plan on using it in the bays like bookings ,winchester bay .and taking it to Alaska in may . So I need a good sturdy quality and all around fishing kayak
What's the best and why

jville - I grew up in Medford and have a friend who pastors a church in jacksonville.  Anyway - your weight has a lot to do with any recommendation.  One of the guys was on a tarpon and it wasn't really enough for him.  What do you weigh?  I have a T13 and love it... I have had it out in a variety of conditions, fresh and salt water, I weight 250-260 when stark nekkid... so it takes the weight.  even loaded down with me, gear and a limit of fish it moves through the water with purpose.  You should also consider what you can comfortably move.  My t13 can be pretty unwieldy at the end of a long day as I am trying to get in on my car.  I don't think I could manage anything bigger.  Feel free to ask more questions... I know I did. :)  Feel free to pm me if you need more info... although in the open would be great cause there are many that know way more then I do about these yaks and have a larger breadth of experience then I do.

I forgot to ad my weight into the mix . I'm 180 pounds 6 foot . I like the idea of the 12 foot tarpon loading easily . I'm concerned about size and capability is 12 foot big enough for the ocean . I'm pretty new to kayak fishing

The tarpon will do just fine in the ocean. It's a great all around boat. I'd continue to paddle a tarpon if I hadn't crossed over to the hobie world.

The T120  is rated at 350 but it should be 250, the big game will ride higer in the water with less drag be a bit faster and Ive heard great reveiws ,I did have a T120 and swapped it for the Tarpon ride115 , Let Me tell you its a Much better boat it easy to over load a kayak while fishing, and it can be very disapointing Not enjoying you kayak, PLEASE if you can Test Ride with gear and remember to add the weight of the 50 lbs of fish your going to catch..Good luck on the kayak and the fish.

Last thing I want is to be disappointed  with a purchase that size .I figure the only way to get real advice would be here . Others I have asked were biased because they sell one or the other but not both side by side . I'm gonna go look at a shop that is supposed to sell ocean kayaks today.
So my next question would be  . Is a trident 13 that much better than a big game prowler
Thanks for the advice.

Does the shop you are going to demo kayaks? Spend some time in the prospective kayak(s) before investing so you wont be disappointed!

Better? its all a matter of trade offs, the big game prowler is wider and slower but it has more weight capacity while trident 13 is going to be narrower and faster but has less capacity.

What Micah said... Plus... You really need to let your use deteine your choice. This is assuming the price different cue between these doesn't matter. Also - consider what you will be adding... Dry suit, paddle, PFd, etc

I have never paddled the big game but I have spent a lot of time on the prowler 13, trident 13 and trident 15. The 13s are some of my favorite boats for just about everything other than small river use. I think that there are some of the best hull designs on the market. I have never huli'ed one and been out in dome pretty 'sporty' conditions. Plus they handle surf like a champ.

To really get what you want you need to paddle the different models you're considering. A kayak demo day is a great thing to attend or make freinds with someone who has a big quiver of boats.
FYI. I have a Coosa and am VERY happy. It loads easy, it's stable, and it tracks well. Aside, we've been eating fresh crab every night for the past week.
