Port Renfrew BC - October Teddy Bear Picnic!!!
Plan a week end in the Port Renfrew area on Vancouver Island,  some time in October! Final date to be determined.

There is a fabulous trip from Fairy Lake, down the San Juan River to Port Renfrew, which takes about two to three hours. If conditions are right, there could be many black bears feeding on the dead salmon along the San Juan River, just out side of Fairy Lake. (This lake connects into the San Juan River)... After the first stretch, the trip takes you through the tree lined river with some great views. There is actually two choices to take either the North Arm or South Arm of the San Juan, both are good, although the south arm can be tough if the tide is coming in & there are head winds. Some years there have been over 20 black bears seen along the River... last year due to heavy rain, we were "schunked"  >:(due to heavy rain a few days before & the salmon were washed away!

Salmon fishing closer to Port Renfrew, should provide some good opportuniies for a "good catch". :o

There are two or three choices of good camping spots, either at Fairy Lake or on the beach in two locations in the Port Renfrew area...
