Beacon Rock Outing 3-6-08

Well, I've been waiting to post until I actually caught something for the year, but now I'm afraid it will never happen!  I'm thinking about taking up golf 

I have actually been out two other times last week.  One trip to Silver Lake in Castle Rock.  I tried for trout and crappie and ended up with the big ZERO.  I also tried Little Ashes Lake and Icehouse Lake by Bridge of the Gods in the Columbia River Gorge and came up empty again.

Today I was inspired by the Washington Hunting and Fishing article about walleyes on the big C so I decided I'd give the trout a break and try for the walleyes.  And the count is still..........  drum roll please.......... ZERO - Damn it!

Anyway - I got on the water at 0930.  Launched from the Beacon Rock State Park boat launch.  Found some nice drop offs to fish and jigged a motor oil curly tail with a night crawler chaser.  Gave it a go for about three hours and not even a little bump.  It sure did look like nice water and structure to find some fish.  The current is a bit strong right out in front of Beacon Rock which made drifts a little fast, but dragging the anchor worked pretty well.

The only activity was a family of four sea lions that were playing around for about an hour.  I was wondering if they were there feeding but never saw them thrash any fish around.

One thing is for certain - It is a beautiful spot.

I wish you all tight lines and I hope my luck changes quickly because I hate golf!

Besides, catching fish is just a bonus.
