Sweet.  Like to see additional people on the water.

I'm thinking the best resource for herring is going to be calling whoever is managing th fishery for F&G.  Might as well here it from the first aggregated source.  I know a few guides down there too.

Hooligan I'd just keep an eye on the local fishing boards.

I did write a few of the basics down on a website. Here's the link for cook inlet.  https://sites.google.com/site/kayakfishingalaska/locations/cook-inlet

Let me know what you think.

I tell everyone I make a TERRIBLE fishing partner because I can never commit to a date or location.  I'm making calls on the fly it seems in every aspect of life these days... work, family, & fishing.   But if we could hook up, that'd be awesome.

This weekend I'll try for the Upper Kenai -- unless a blizzard keeps me off the roads. Seriously -- what's up with that? Didn't make it last weekend because of road conditions. Late this week looks like a great forecast for Cooper Landing though.  High 30's and sun -- spooky but ravenous big 'bows to find.

Weather permitting, I'll be after halibut on April 19, 20 and 21 from Deep Creek. Great tides even if it's a bit early. If nothing's showing there, I'll probably meander further south to Whiskey Gulch or Anchor Point.

Call me if you want a partner for this weekend
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

OK -- I'll look again at water levels, but it has been low so I'll likely bring the Aire.  Last I checked it was flowing @ 436 cfs, staging at 4.96 ft.

Bzuefishx: You're welcome to join in too. You might want to ride tandem just to get a look at the river in early season.  Not nearly the torrent of high summer, but still fast. Water temperature is 34 degrees -- so pretty much need to be spot casting at targets to get hook ups.  With the forecast for sun, the top of the water column might be warming enough to see more active predatory behavior from the trout.

I think a float from Sportsman's to Jim's will be plenty; maybe twice if it's really that nice a day. This is a gravel bar hop, as there's no anchoring in the channel and it's too hard for me to hold the kayak against the current to fish a hole. At least while I'm fishing solo that's been my experience. I've been thinking of paddling the Revo and (once the water comes up) putting the drive in backwards to try holding against the current.  Seems like a maneuver I should attempt with company around though.

I've tired that move...pretty touchy steering in reverse.  Might be easier to face upstream.....maybe

I'd think casting upstream and moving forward with the rudder downstream would yield a better controlled drift. Current by the banks will be slower so your line would typically be upstream of you unless you pedaled.

Confusion and a wrong turn avoiding an imminent sweeper facing the wrong way scares me a bit. It's something I could see doing...especially in the heat of battle.

Hmmm....
