Just bought a 2013 Hobie Outback from Northwest Adventure last week. My dry suit is supposed to get here today some time, then I'm looking forward to seeing how it does in the water. This is an upgrade from an Old Town Loon 111 Kayak that I bought from the Scappoose Bay Paddling Center about 5 years ago. I fished mostly in lakes in the summer and went crabbing with it at Netarts a few times. Haven't tried going out on the open ocean yet but it's something that I'd like to try.

Welcome. There are a few of us on the deep west side, and at least one in Forest Grove-proper.  I've seen a guy fishing out of a Loon at Hagg. Perhaps it was you...

Welcome! You're going to love your new Outback. I got mine about a month ago and my only complaint is not spending nearly enough time on it  :D

Howdy,
I'm also new to NWKA, and have only been kayak fishing in OR 1 season.  I'm in your "neighborhood" so to speak, and I guess you'd call Hagg a "home" lake for me.  There's some good work going on now to improve the habitat, and hopefully future fishing quality in there.  Have you found any of the big smallies that are rumored to swim in Hagg?...so far they have eluded me.

Haven't caught any bass at Hagg, just a few small trout. I heard the water level is pretty low at Hagg lake right now. Hopefully this weather system that's going through right now will help.

I am new to this site as well. I live in Forest Grove and spend a lot of time at Hagg on my Ocean Kayak Prowler. I am ready for the lake to reopen and hope to see you on the water.
There are some nice Smallies in Hagg as well as plenty of trout.

I have caught several nice smallies out at Hagg. Spend a day watching where the old timers go. They have it down to a science of dates, time of day and best presentation.
Good luck

Welcome to Hobie kayak fishing....there are a couple of us who live in Hillsboro, Forest Grove who fish Hagg quite a bit early in the season, drop me a note if you're interested in fishing with us.
