So, I've been wanting to get the narrow GT90 system when I stumbled upon this:

Plastic track system... hmmm ???

The proposed price is right, the colors are cool, the corrosion factor and weight would be marginally better, but I'm not so sure about the durability. Thoughts?

I've also noticed in my recent searches that Scotty is coming out with their own track system. Online pics don't look as tough as the current aluminum YakAttack stuff, but maybe I'm expecting too much.

I would prefer aluminum myself. Although I don't see why the plastic stuff wouldn't work. Hard to tell from a picture how durable the plastic stuff is, I would want to handle one of the rails in my hand before pulling the trigger on it.
I like the color options. Very cool.

A demo of the plastics durability would be nice.  I'd prefer aluminum just for piece of mind.

That's pretty cool...I'm betting the plastic would be plenty strong.  How it holds up with exposure is another question though.  Depends on the plastic used I suppose.  I also like the fact that you can drill holes where you want them.

I will probably give this a try.  Thanks for the post.

My bet, is that they are stronger than the polyethylene you mount them to.

Requiring aluminum seems like mounting a tank turret on a gremlin.

Depends on what it you're trying to do.  If you need something fairly stiff, aluminum (assuming the same cross-section) is many times stiffer than plastic.  So if you're potentially worried about something popping out of the tracks under load the aluminum will be superior, all else being equal (which it never is).

You say this like that would be a bad thing. LOL Who wouldn't want to see a tank turret on a gremlin?
There's got to be a Top Gear or Mythbusters episode on this somewhere...

It very well may be the perfect system, but like RR, I'd want to heft the thing in my hand before buying.
I'm excited because of the price an the ability to do rad custom things with it like QuillbackBob's Revo 11

The plastic stuff looks cool, and not to take anything away from the innovation at Yakattack, but there is always the cheaper and more durable aluminum not-specifically-designed-for-a-kayak T-track. It is narrower than the yakattack aluminum version, but they make double wide.

Thanks Craig. I've actually got some T-track in my garage and I've thought about using it. The problem is that I don't trust it. Maybe mine is thinner than the stuff you linked to, but mine is somewhat bendable. I could imagine with a big rod holder strapped to it and a 30 lb dream-fish on the other end that it'd pull the t-bolt out of the track.

The yakattack stuff seems to be milled aluminum rather than extruded; and I think the extra pricetag and free sticker also make it a tad bit stronger. (in my mind)

D-OH! I didn't  factor in the sticker.  I think the extruded stuff is plenty strong.  It is used for clamping jigs and other things to power tools. I like the yakattack stuff, but it's beyond what I would be willing to pay for a product of its nature.  But now that I know there is a sticker involved..... ;)

I agree with you...I've always like the idea but the price is just too high.  I'm thinking I'll try out these plastic rails because they are cheaper, I like colors, and it's all about the sticker.  Have these been released yet?  If so, anyone know if NA will be selling them?
