Well it seems that the time is nearing for springer fishing. This will be my first year fishing them from a yak so I figured I would ask the question of when do you guys start fishing them ?.. I'm thinking about hitting the columbia on monday but I'm not sure if I would be wasting my time and perhaps my efforts would be better focused on another species ?

Thanks for any input !!!

I was going to try today but the reports I've been hearing are not very good yet. I'm going to hold off for a bit.

There is always a chance but it is still early. Watch the outgoing tide on the Big C too. It can rip pretty good on the outgoing.

Yeah Craig and I were the laughing stock of the power boaters last fall when we tried anchoring in front of Salty's. I've fished the Columbia since I was a kid but I don't ever remember it ripping like it did that day.

I was out two weeks ago on the Willamette in a friends boat.  Saw one fish caught at Meldrum Bar, and two very large sea lions cruising up stream.  Oh, and also saw rawkfish out working his Hobie on a downstream troll.

There are fish around, and it should just get better for awhile as long as the weather cooperates.

They are here, but they are few and far between.

Wish I could claim it was mine but it wasn't. I'm not sure the weight. I just thought it looked purty :)

I just got back after fishing the Willy from 7 to 3:30.  I got one fish, but it was a jack about twice as big as my herring, so it's still alive and swimming. :-)

I put in at the OMSI ramp and paddled up to the south end of Ross Island.  Marked a lot of fish, but they didn't want my offerings of whole or cut herring. Didn't see any of the PBr's catch any either.  But, it didn't rain, and my winter of 60 hr work weeks is over.  Looking forward to more frequent outings and catching some big fish soon!
