Sherminator showed me his idea for a basic inline diy shrimp fly rig. Since is has no knots it is easy to rig up. I want to know though, how strong do you think this is? See pics below.

Basically you pinch the line together and shove it through a bead. The you take the loop and thread a fly through and and pull tight. The bead helps distribute the force on the line and you can easily adjust the fly on the line up or down.

Awesome idea. My only 2˘ would be to get a small, pointed blade and bevel the holes on the beads to prevent chaffing your leader. I'm definitely going to try this next time I'm out on the water.

It would be easy to test if you have a scale you can pull against.  I don't :(

Learn the inline dropper loop and then you can change or remove the shrimp flies as needed. Plus your shrimp flies will flop around on the dropper loops and have more action (not that it matters a ton with rockfish).

Sounds like a dropper loop (with heavier line) is the preferred method. I didn't even think about the action of the fly. I know it works, but knowing how to tie knots is always a good idea.

I came up with this method as a quick way to rig on the water. I tried it on our PC outing a couple of weeks ago, and it worked well. I even attached a couple of bare hooks that way, and put split and curly tail grubs on the hooks, with a 4oz ball on the bottom. Took down several lings and a double rockfish with that setup. The hooked lings slid down the line to the bottom, so there is wear on the line, but not visible wear. I was happy with the experiment.

This may be a good way to re-rig while reducing the chum potential on the water.  I will have to give it a try.

Tying a dropper loop shouldn't induce chum... it's pretty much a no look knot.

That is a great video. Now i know how to tie a dropper loop. Probably should have learned a long time ago.
