DIY wedge mount for molded rod holders

I would like to come up with a wedge mount post that can fit into the rod holders, then bolt a RAM ball to it...this will prevent drilling more holes and make them removable.  Has anyone made something like this?  I figured I would check here and see if others have already come up with something before spending too much time on it.

Someone on NCKA made a wedge like thing to mount a downrigger on a hobie.  I'll see if I can find it.

Yep I'm talking about those holes and thanks for the video, that is interesting and gives me some ideas.

What I really want is something like this that fits the rod holder holes:


They don't seem to make one (unless I've just missed it).

1 1/4" PVC conduit fits perfectly into the holes, I'm sure you can make a ram ball mount to that.

To make that, you just need a 1.25" wooden dowel, a 1/4" bolt (length determined by length of dowel), a 1/4" t-nut (used in rock climbing gym construction, really cheap) or another form of hammer-in style nut, a 1/2 inch wood drill bit, drill, ratchet set.

I'm still trying to find the example.

I can't find a picture of the wedge mount, but you can make it with wood, and it just looks like a bigger version of the RAM wedge mount.

Scotty is finally making a new gimbal mount (product #453) that fits tightly into flush rod holders.   The older model (#253) was always way too loose.




They're using it with a Scotty downrigger, but I'm sure it could be adapted for a ram ball with the ram adaptor.

Meanwhile, ram does have a few wedgemounts for flush rod holders.
