this branches off of another thread regarding improving the steering/tracking of ProAngler12/14 kayaks-

most common approaches seem to be changing the built-in rudder to a wider/longer blade or adding a twist&stow rudder to the stern and using the built-in blade as a skeg.

we have all seen the simple and lightweight PVC trolling motor mounts that people make that drop into one of the rear molded in pole holders.

so what about making the same sort of PVC drop-in mount so that it puts a fixed blade/skeg down into the water right at the edge of the kayak?  a matching pair of these would put a skeg down on each side; steering would remain with the built-in rudder....

bad idea?  or worth experimenting with?

Worth a shot!  From the sounds of it, it might be easier to do a quick demo version to see the effect before putting together a final version.

My initial concern would be a negative effect on the steering responsiveness.  It already takes a good 4 seconds before you see any action from cranking the till all the way one way or the other.  That drives me insane, but not as much as the tracking issue :)
