It's gonna be nearly 80 degrees this coming weekend. I can hear a big linger calling my name from Westport.
Open invitation if anyone else wants to join me on the water. ;D ;D

Aye, I was looking the forecast myself. When were you thinking of going?

Tide book is showing high of 7.1' at 8:41 am on Saturday--and 7.1' at 9:50 on Sunday morning.

Not wanting to fight a strong ebb tide I'm thinking of a daylight start and get out before the tide swings .
It get light a little before 6 am, so an early launch will probably be happening for me. Magic Seaweed is calling for fairly calm seas of 2 feet or less so it should be a very comfortable day.

Low tides for both days are 1.7 at 2:49 pm Saturday and 1.0 at 3:54 pm on Sunday. Not a huge exchange but it is always better to land with an incoming tide.
Both days look good--however Sunday will give more time between sun-up and the tide change.

Life is short---live it tall.

Any Washington guys want to join up on this---most of us will launch at Half Moon Bay (that's under the tower).
Shooting for a dawn launch (about 5:30 ish)
   Monitor VHF channel 69.
Bring crabbing gear if you'd like.

It is the halibut opener for Area 2 so there will probably be some boat traffic---most PB's will be going to deep water so there will be a few wakes to start the day.

Come on out if you'd like. Should be an awesome day.

  Might want to bring sunscreen ???? That's rare ::) ::) ::)

It was a great day out at Westport today.
Met up with wind-n-emotion (Phil) about 5:30 am at Half Moon Bay. He was already geared up and ready to go --I took a little while to get there.
The launch was a little wet for my part, not sure how Phil fared cause he had a bit of a head start. Once past the breakers the water wasn't too bad . A bit of swell but no wind waves at all. Not even too many wakes from the halibut hunting crowd.
I was working a Big Hammer jig on the way out toward the rock garden near the west end. Only had 1 short strike that didn't connect. Damhik...
Changed over to a banana weight, 4 oz. and put a whole herring on. Started working the rock garden edges from 25' to 50' deep Ended up with this little guy(kelp greenling). It might have been worth a few AOTY points--but I'm not playing this year. Oh well.
Wind-n-emotion meanwhile had caught a nice 27" ling cod. He does have a story to tell that should be coming later............don't want to spoil his fun.
While the bite today wasn't fast and furious, it was still a great day to be on the water. Hope everyone had an awesome day in this rare sunshine.

Like Mark said, it was a pretty awesome day out.  The surf launch wasn’t bad, I went down the beach a little ways where the surf was all of 6 inches or so.   It started out a little choppy but laid down after a little while.  Caught a few small blacks and ended up catching a 27 inch ling on a 2 oz jig head and new penny curly tail gulp almost at the end of the jetty.  It was getting close to 11 and as I hadn’t eaten all day and the tide was about to turn so I started heading back.  While paddling in I was thinking about all the ways I was going to cook up that ling, fish tacos, beer battered ling, lemon pepper on the grill, the list went on.  Then I started thinking about the AOTY points, not a lot, but a good place holder for now.  A splash behind me brought me out of my daydreams, I looked back and there was a fin sticking out of the water, then two more behind it.  They came up beside my kayak and around it, zipping back and forth under me and around, small porpoises, maybe 5 feet long.  While I paddled in amazement thinking to myself, “this was a good day, but now it is a great day,” the ling decided to wake up and flipped twice off my lap, popped the S clip holding my game clip and plopped into the water before I could react.   I braked hard and gasped in horror as I watched my ling and game clip sink out of reach.  As quick as I could I dropped a line down to try to snag it off the bottom to no avail.  After a few jigs there were two hard pulls on the line, more like someone grabbed the line and pulled on it that a fish strike.  I’d like to think that’s how the porpoises said, “Thanks for the fish.”  It was still a great day even though you can’t eat memories.

I didn't make it out till much later in the day, had a few things to take care of before I could go. Ended up crabbing and playing around with my scupper pro. Got a keeper dungie, caught some waves and went for a swim or two. The scupper pro surfs not too shabbily at all!

Both the halfmoon bay and Westhaven State park lots were jam packed. Never seen it that crowded out there.
