Hello All! What a great resource this site is, before purchasing my new kayak I was able to research a lot of information I did not even consider, hence the purchase of a long list of required gear. I have owned kayaks for many years but had never considered the Ocean aspect. Went out my first 3 trips from Brookings and I cannot believe how many Lings I hooked into. I had to tell my North River drift boat we may be breaking up cause my kayak is taking me places it cannot go.

I made several surf launches, and once out into the flat Ocean I could see waves starting to break on the shore from where I launched, that made me a bit uneasy so I quickly went back in but Lingfever was too much to overcome, so another launch back out. Funny, my wife has several photos of me coming back to shore and she has the impression I was scared, I am maintaining that this was the face of fun and calmness not a scared man.

Welcome! I just got back from fishing in Brookings this weekend. I was in a power boat though. I did bring my Outback though and did my first surf launch. I fished the jetty for a while before deciding to head in and brave the landing. It went well! I didn't get tossed from the kayak, haha. It made me want to learn how to surf though!
Where do you fish in Brookings? I was fishing just off of Bird Island in the PB. I didn't have time to scout out a place to put in with the kayak. It was a blast. On Saturday the water was flat as can be. I was killing myself for not fishing from the kayak!
I really want to go back and pedal out near bird island, I'm guessing Harriet Beach would be the best place. What do you think?

I launched out of Lone Ranch most of the time. Best fishing I had was out of Lone Ranch, paddled North, within sight or where I left the beach. Just using a 2 ounce jig, could do not wrong. We camped at Harris Beach for a week and those Ling fish and chips were stunning.
