Hello to all,
I'm a complete noob to the whole world of kayaking but it sounds to fun to miss out on. Been looking around the forum and getting tons of info and am glad to see a place where people share good info. I'm over on the east side of Washinton in the tri-cities. I'm curious how many have tried targeting wall eye out of their kayaks. Will probably target them and oversize sturgeon in bot the columbia and snake. All info is great as I'm sure new rods and the like are surely in my future. I'm sure the 13'10" bank rod would be a bit much for a kayak. Ideas on yaks to try would be great, there's nearly always wind here and I'll always be fighting current. Hobie's sound good but open to ideas on ones I should test paddle.

Hi,

I prefer the fishing rod to be 7.5 feet and shorter. You can definitely bag walleye from a boat. Have not taken many but was lucky on one this spring out at Potholes. You might think catfish too. My favorite rods are a 7 foot Shimano Trevala jigging rod and for trolling fresh waters I use a 6.5 foot Cabelas Tourney Trail lure wt 5/8 - 1 1/2 Oz with a Abu C4 5600. If intend to cast a lot I'll bring an 8.5 foot Ugly Stick lite but it's kind of a pain dealing with line twists on the tip at that length.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forum.

I've bagged a few walleye on Moses and Potholes from my Revo13.  I used a Berkley IM8 8'6" salmon rod with bait caster to bottom bounce for walleye.  I have a couple 8' Berkley IM7 spinning rods.  And a couple of stout 7' Ugly Stik Tigers.  They are all 2-piece.

I like to fish in the Umatilla area occasionally.  That's only 30 minutes from you.

Thanks for the advice guys, keep it coming. Justin, figured you just drive down the powder to Richland and shoot all the carp on the mud flats there.

I see a lto on here about the debate between the Revo 13 and the Outback, but not much on the Adventure. Is it just in a different class than the other two? How manuverable does a kayak need to be if your fishing these big rivers? Forgive my ignorance, just trying to make sense of it all. Will make it to Hood river to try some out one of these days.

I think that you will find that the Adventure guys spend a lot of time ocean fishing, where the Adventure's advantages are more apparent. For freshwater fishing, the Revo and Outback really shine. I think the Revo does both bigger and smaller water pretty well, while the Outback's limitations start showing in the ocean.

The Adventure is probably too long for a river.  Personally, I don't think one can really go wrong with a Revo13.  Of course, YMMV.

The Addy is an awesome boat! I love mine.
With that said it is 16 feet long and I would not want to take it down a tight river or stream. Though I'm sure you would be OK on large rivers.
It really is best as an Ocean boat.
