Shop used! eBay,
Craigslist, on this forum. Buy a dry suit.
A member up here huli'd in his waders and dry top and was soaking wet and really cold.

I huli'd and only got a couple drips down my neck. And I was completely submerged.

I just picked up a spare kokatat suit like new for 300 bucks.

Least expensive option is a used surfing wetsuit and a wind breaker.

If you're talking about Rudy, a dry top wasn't  being worn at the time.

From Rudy's KayakFishingMagazine.net article on the dangers of waders..

It was a nice July day in Alaska; with air temperature was in the 50's and water temperature in the low 40's. I was wearing polypro undergarments, two pairs of fleece sweat pants, two fleece sweatshirts and a medium jacket. I put my waders on, cinched my belt, donned my PFD over my jacket and I was ready to go. A rookie move led me to dump into the water.

Two fleece sweatshirts and a medium jacket do not a dry top make!

You can get a 4mm wetsuit for cheaper then a a single pair of waders. that's used of course. If you shop around under 50 bucks.
Of course the drysuit is way easier to get in hung over.

Check Craigslist

http://portland.craigslist.org/search/sss?zoomToPosting=&query=wetsuit&srchType=A&minAsk=&maxAsk=

Lots of stuff on there.
With a little searching you could probably find something closer to you and perhaps cheaper than even renting. (Although I don't know what it'd cost to rent and may still be the cheapest route)

Happy Hunting

My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

My Norm for the Ocean ,is my 3x Wet suit Farmer and Booties and a fleece top and heavy Windbreaker, Pfd. My wet suit is For Cold temps and very thick ,getting in and out of it is a comedy to watch. ,it seems it may be a Bit over kill on the Kayak,As I don't own a Dry top and I'm a big guy  I'm still looking for one I can afford to buy. But My question is Does what I have now ,should it be replaced.  I also have My Waders But I have Been in the water with them and its not fun.
