So I took a day off as our company generously gives a day off for Birthdays.

Stayed close as I took my 8 year old out. Didn't see any jumpers. I will say I have some confidence trolling bare red hooks behind a dodger. Unfortunately it's because I managed to pull up four small cod. So I guess it does look like food.

My son did ok. At the closest seat pegs and at number one he could get maybe two thirds of a stroke in. He did great. Next time I'm taking the amas off. It interferes too much when coming along the side to help with fishing.

A few pics. He is wearing a pfd under the wind breaker.

Nice job! Wonder how I'd do out there with a Barbie Pole...

Happy Birthday, Rudy -- what a great way to celebrate the day.  Soon, you'll be adding another Hobie to the fleet...

True.......you need to check out Rudy's video of his kids with a 6 meter pole. They kick serious tail on some fish.

Rudy---outstanding job getting your boy out there. I see the fleet growing soon.

It was great!  I will say that after the first 30 minutes, I was much more afraid of him hurting himself with the fishing gear and flopping fish versus huli'ing the kayak.  So next time, it's on a lake with no amas.  It was too hard to come up along side and raft up with him to help him untangle lines and remove swallowed hooks.

We made it back to Tonsina Creek and back...probably twice given the distance and time.  I'd say four miles all said and done.  I had him with just a 3oz sinker but I consistently had to tell him to "slow down" so he could get more depth and better line angle.

Between his Bicycle and Hobie, the kid is going to have some leg strength for sure!!!!

My biggest surprise of the day was seeing my rod double over trolling just two bare red gamakatsu hooks behind a dodger.  Wow, I guess some fish do think it looks like something to eat in the ocean.  It happened 4 or 5 times so it wasn't accidental and the fish literally swallowed the hook.

Now that they shut the kings down in the Inlet, I think I may try to target the reds come first week of July or so in the inlet with the set up.

Oh here's my two vids with the 6 meter poles Mark was talking about.  Ok so they are a little fancier than Barbie Poles but with a disadvntage of no reels.  But super way to get the kids fishing!!!
