All this talk of catch coolers and having to get off the water earlier then we wanted to today so dude's fish wouldn't spoil got us looking for a less expensive cooler. We just ordered this catch bag for 38.95 with shipping. Seems like a cheaper alternative to the spendy catch bags with all the bells and whistles. We will give a review after we get a chance to use it

I just went to a BBQ tonight at one of my daughters softball coaches house.  When we go there he had that exact cooler hanging on the fence drying out.  His boat caught 5 fish yesterday and they stuffed 3 big Nooks and ice in it.

I too have been looking for something to upgrade to over my yellow dry bag, and like the looks and solid feel of the fabric of that catch cooler.  Keep us posted on your thoughts once you get a chance to stuff it.

Coos - I have the original version of the Katch Kooler I've been using for years now:

I like it.  I use 3 "foam ice" bricks that are about 1"x8"x10".  I am considering trying out Techni Ice sheets.  It has kept the fish nice and cool for the day, but wouldnt want to go for two days.

There is a vinyl center divider - fish on one side, ice/bricks on the other.

I have used ice in it before, but it makes it very bulky and heavy.

My earlier version of the Katch Kooler is a little shorter, so I am considering getting the Katch Kooler II.  Even with my smaller version, I have trouble finding space on my Revo for it.  Until I need it, I roll it up, with the ice bricks inside, and stuff it in the front hatch - not sure if the Katch Kooler II would fit in the hatch.   Once I put fish in it, I end up balancing it, precariously, on top of my milk carton.  Seems too big to try and strap if to the front of the Revo - maybe it would work better on the Outback.  I need to figure out a good way to strap it down - wish it had some D-rings on it.

The zipper is not waterproof = if you use ice, or put fish in it before they are fully bled out, you need to keep the Kooler vertical if you're worried about leakage.

Once you get home, make sure you wash out all the fish slime, and hang it so the insides can dry out.  Otherwise, it develops a nice fish stink.  The vinyl center divider tends to stick to one side when wet, which makes it hard to dry out both sides.

Please let us know what you think of the Katch KoolerII.

I have one and it works great, I just throw it in the tankwell and clip it through a bungee. Mainly because the oasis has no room. Not pretty, but very effective.  Should fit in the outback's front hatch even if you have to fold it over.

Oops! the cat ran across the computor keyboard. Like the way you can keep the ice separate from the fish.

I am considering trying out Techni Ice sheets.

We ordered some of the techni ice to try it out too. Very mixed reviews, hard to believe the reviews can be so drastically different but some people might not take the time to properly hydrate them, that's my thought.

we will give a review on both after we get to use it some..

Already got the bag..Impressed with the shipping time even though it only came from WA.

great quality bag and they did away with the center divider thing someone talked about, much nicer for cleaning i imagine.. Big enough for two good sized salmon.

Most likely wont be able to get on the water until monday so next week will give a review if i get to stuff some Salmon in it..

I looked at the Katch Kooler II at Hoggs in Hillsboro and saw that it didn't have the divider anymore, and the inside material looks like it would get destroyed by rockfish spines real quick.  It is different material inside than what I saw in the coaches bag.

On the flip side it definitely looks like  it would work great for salmon, trout and other similar fish.

Decided to go a different direction for a soft cooler.

This will be used for Salmon only so not so worried about the material. Rockfish spines destroy everything eventually. The water is alot colder in the ocean comp[ared to the river so dipping them occasionally in a regularmesh  catch bag/burlap will be suffficient...Will see how it goes.

Yup, your set for the Salmon!  Now get out there and get some more chrome to smoke!

I am currently in the process of making a batch of frozen sponges to put in my soft cooler.  I usually use frozen Gatorade bottles in the bottom of my dry bag and that works well, but this new bag has a flat bottom and the bottles just rolled to one end of it's 36" length, due to the angle of the Revo tank well.   The sealed reusable frozen sponges will sit flat and pretty much cover the bottom.

So, figured i give my opinion on the Katch Kooler and the techni ice. Been able to use it on numerous occasions and I give a big thumbs up for both! The cooler keeps ice frozen for many hours and the techni ice is great because it is flat and fits perfectly in the Katch Kooler. was using one sheet of the ice and augmenting it with a couple freezer bags of ice on some days but ordered more sheets of the techni ice. 4 sheets should do fine. even after 4+ hours the cells are still mostly frozen except on real hot days. The cooler does sit in the real well on the outback all day in direct sunlight and the fish is still nice and cold, even with just one sheet of techni ice. I would never use  the katch Kooler for rockfish though, the spines would destroy it pretty quick but awesome for Salmon!

If you are looking for a way to keep your Salmon cold on the yak i highly recomend this setup.

I agree this is a good bag for the money. One other piece of advice is to put your fish in plastic bags. It keeps that fish slime out of the bag and makes it easy to clean up when you get home.
