I'm thinking of hitting the inlet for a go at halibut this weekend. Tides will be small do that's a plus.
Then maybe stop at the Kenai for reds?

Argh. Last week already? On a flt to Denver today. Back Sunday. I'm hoping to take time off this summer a few days at a time. I've got nearly a month of PTO accumulated but can't find time to take off!!

Let us know if you see reds hopping in the inlet!!  Go get'em!

Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Fingers crossed, I'll be fishing for halibut south of Deep Creek on Sunday & Monday. Responsibilities have abated a bit. So if the good things hold, I'm heading south. Been too long.

Just heard that the long liner fleet has been working the lower cook inlet area pretty hard. Maybe that's why fishing has been slow there.

Also heard a long liner was working montague island too. On the shallow area where all the sport fish guys go

The commercial fleet has always worked those areas generally speaking. Don't let that stop you. These latest reports are a definite encroachment into traditional sportfishing areas but in years past they would have caught the same fish deeper.

I won't get out this weekend. Still stuck in Denver. But I can't wait to try BIG baits like half or even whole salmon with this wall of sockeyes hitting the inlet!!!

I'm in Kenai for the night, hoping the inshore waters stay reasonably calm so I can get out on the morning slack tide. Rowboat buddies today found an 80# halibut in 55' from Deep Creek. Aaargh, I couldn't get away until 4 today. Hope the wind stays flat until noon at least. Something's blowing in.

Shoot me a PM if you're interested in going out Sunday.
