So I recently purchased a Hummingbird 587 ci HD DI. The mounting base has the cables attached, unlike the Mark 4 I previously had so now I have this large base to deal with when the FF head is not attached. What are you other hummingbird users doing? I think what I will do is run the cables with base mount though the front hatch (I have an Outback) to my ram mount so I can have a cleaner deck when not fishing. Of couse that creates a place for water to enter when going through the surf or rough water conditions. Any pictures or comments would be appreciated. Thanks guys....

This will show you the RAM arm and mounting plate.  Use stainless hardware to secure the HB mount to the plate.

The installation above is for a OK T13A.  The marine power plug will eventually corrode no matter how careful you are.  Currently, I have my HB mounted on a Revo13 with the power and transducer cables snaking under the front hatch. After a while the hatch seal takes a "set" from the pressure of the cables and if one so desired they could be silicone sealed over to match the contour of the rest of the hatch seal.  I also used the YakAttack Gear Trac 90 to mount the HB/RAM assembly to the yak.  With the HB off the mount and the arm folded down and tightened it is fairly low-profile.  Using the GearTrac the entire assembly could be removed and secured inside the boat.

Consider buying another HB mount, putting it on a wood base (2x6), and adapting the power cord for a cigar lighter power adapter.  Using it you can plug it into an auxiliary power pack and program the unit from the comfort of your living room.

I also have an Outback and this is how I mounted my ff. I don't use the front rod holders, so it's not in the way.

My humminbird ff (385ci) mount on my outback is on the starboard side in the recessed area next to the rigid handle. It works well there. The handle is tough to use but since the weight distribution on the outback is not conducive to using the handles it's not a problem. The fact that it is recessed protects the base, when the head unit is not attached from unexpected dings n' things. Wires run down from the mount to the Battery bag and I have a cover to protect the exposed wires.
Pm me if you want some pics. I'm not at home and can't attach pics from my phone.
