There are only two more "Motorless Mondays"  left on the Kenai for the season.  Is anyone interested in fishing that stretch from the Skilak Lake outlet to either the Moose River confluence or further on either July 22 or 29?  I've always wanted to float that stretch but don't want to be on the river in a kayak when the motorized boats are in there so thick.  Of the two dates, the 29th works slightly better for me -- but if I can entice one of you out on either date, I will make it work.

The reds should be throughout the river downstream of Skilak, and the trout and dollies should be taking flesh flies with impunity...

Well I already told your hubby I can't work at your place on Monday the 22nd so I'll get busted for sure fishing with you so I guess we'll have to make the 29th work.

The river is LOADED with reds. And now the limit doubled.

I'll mark it down on the calendar!

It's all up in the air at the moment Jeff. I have a houseguest arriving on the 30th and prepping for that needs to be done if I'm to slip off on the 29th.  But if I get clear of commitments and chores, I will definitely go. Matt sounds likely on the 29th. I solo the Upper Kenai frequently, but this would be a first run on the middle river. So it's not a trip I would run without companions. House rules. You would be most welcome.

Most likely, I'm out. I wasn't thinking about my days off "budget." We have a 2 wk trip to visit my family in the midwest.

I'd love to get out with some other kayak fishers, though. I've never kayak fished with anyone else with any experience. Hopefully I can catch up with some one or another here this summer/fall.

Not sure how smart this is but off to hit the middle river now. Need to crash a pig roast at Kenai Keyes this afternoon. Will report.

well not too many fish. Two small bows on flesh flies. Inlet to river was loaded with reds. Stopped by a pig roast at Kenai Keyes. 5 to 6 people flipping for 5 hours had 7 reds to show for it.

I'd hit it hard before the Keyes. Killey river spewing mud. Visibility dropped a bit below the Killey. Folks at the Keyes said 8mm tangerine bead and grey/tan flesh flies.

Powerboats were zero issue. Easy float. I can't wait to try side drifting bobber and roe or jig in a few weeks. I was amazed at the control hugging the banks and slipping downstream.

Oh.  And I didn't know but lucked out as I was landing in that area is the no fishing from boats around the killey river through July 31.  See regs for boating restrictions for Kenai River.

There is a lot of regulations along the lower and middle rivers! Lots of markers to look out for. Especially if your targeting kings
